How popular is football in India? Is it the no. 2 sport there? No.1 is cricket, right?

all the sports are no.2 here. its like

1. cricket

2. hockey, tennis, football.

you are considered a freak if you have the gall of watching football over cricket.

Don't know where you live but it's quite the contrary in the metros (can speak for Mumbai and Delhi), especially in the teenage - late 20s bracket. It's "cooler" to watch football than cricket there.

did my engineering from iit-madras. 5 years and had to put up a fight to watch any football match if any lousy IPL match was going on.

right now working in gurgaon, and cant find a soul playing football anywhere.

mumbai on the other hand i can believe. probably the only place (of all the places i have stayed) where people are actually interested in football.

My next 5 days are just going to be spent praying to whichever god decides to listen that Hazard, Matic and Costa at the very least get back in one piece. Those 3 are our most vital players and it worries me greatly that they're travelling and not resting.

Dave and JT are less vital but still incredibly important (Assuming Luis staying and another CB coming in as to why they're not vital).

Will be pretty pissed off if 1 of those 5 ends up badly injured as a result of this.... No marketing opportunities are worth that.

Hazard will be the first name on the sheet. This is a marketing event and he's our most marketable player. I don't like it but that's the reality.

You're right but its also an end of the season friendly and I'm sure both teams understand that and will act accordingly.
