Having worked with Cole during his time in charge of the Blues, Mourinho has insisted that there is no reason why the 32-year-old cannot continue playing at the highest level for another "four to five years".

"The brain controls, but the body needs to answer to the brain," said Mourinho. "His brain gives him, for sure, four to five years at a high level. I hope his body says yes.

"Ash is one of the best left-backs in the world. He is the kind of player who it is difficult to choose his best performance, because he is always so stable.

"I left England in 2007. At that time he was the best. Six years later he is still the best. He has won everything at club level and is getting his 100th cap. I believe the football world in England knows who he is."

Wow.....so suck it Marcelo!

But seriously, where is Mourinho's head if he's saying that? Doesn't sound like it's in Madrid.

He's just telling the truth, regardless whether his head is in Madrid or not.

Did Jose really say that? Any video proof?

It was reported in the English media - ESPN, Metro, Daily Star etc.

What a stellar achievement! England's best ever LB and probably the most consistent perform. The lack of acknowledgement by the FA at the match yesterday is shameful, yet expected.

Instead of having Cole on the Matchday programme front cover, they had Hodgson, Baines and another player.

He's played more than 300 games for us, won everything you can possibly win in the domestic game with us, and played an integral role in winning us our first European Cup. That definitely is legend material.

'Legend' is thrown away too often in regards to this period in our history, but with this being the most illustrious period we have ever had in terms of success (and probably ever will!), identifying the likes of Lampard, Terry, Cole, Drogba and Cech as modern legends despite their close proximity is befitting their status at the club. They have achieved more success than the likes of Tambling, Greaves, Dixon, Zola, Bonetti and Osgood ever enjoyed on the pitch, and by that reasoning they will one day be celebrated in the same fashion.

We won't know how good these players have truly been for us until they leave.

He's still underrated in my opinion.

He's England's greatest left-back, he's probably been the best England player over the last decade and there's a good case for him being our greatest ever player. That might sound strong, but I can't think of any other Chelsea player who has been the best in their position in the world over a number of seasons.
