Barbara 15,149 Posted July 9, 2013 Share Posted July 9, 2013 if lopez can challenge cassilas then why cant schwarzer challenge cech... the point of being a back-up/squad option is that the first teamers dont take their place for GRANTED and put in good performances consistently (not that cech does not do that). because casillas struggled at some point and then got injured and Diego Lopez was a beast?some people complain about Cech, but I think he did very well - top level - last season. The upside to this is there is an Aussie in the squad. Actually that's a big upside but let's see how this affects his World Cup. The signing went through very quickly and behind closed doors.
