Di Marzio: Roma intensifies pursuit of Chelsea winger Salah

Roma look to the transfer market with the intention of strengthening their squad and keep competing at the highest level. The current plan for the capital club is to sign a winger in the January window, and the main target is Mohamed Salah. Over the last few hours, important progress has been made in dealing with Chelsea. Roma director Walter Sabatini met representatives today to devise a strategy. An important acceleration, for a transfer negotiation that is already in full swing. Salah could soon be joining the "giallorossi" of Roma.

As we reported last night, Roma is intensifying their pursuit of Salah. Today the winger's agent met with Chelsea, the intermediary representing Roma was also present. They are working in bridging the gap between Roma's offer of a €500,000 for the loan with an option to buy Salah in 18 months at €14 million, while Chelsea is asking for €1.5 million up front. It also emerged that Chelsea had tried to include Salah in the potential deal with Fiorentina for Cuadrado. Salah is also being pursued by Real Sociedad (Chelsea met with the Spanish club yesterday morning) as well as Atletico Madrid and Monaco, but it appears Salah prefers to join Roma.

Excellent solution for all concerned. For him it was imperative to move because it's clear that the manager simply doesn't trust or rate him for whatever reason. We get to find a space for Cuadrado who presumably is seen as someone that will actually threaten for a starting berth. Tidy business financially as well - no wages for the rest of the season, a loan fee and another £11m in the summer - we're actually going to make a profit on the guy. The benefits of buying low and buying young. Good luck to him; I hope he has a fruitful time in Rome.
