calculatingInfinity 1,472
Remember when people took Mourinhos "Rooney or bust" words (that really were put into his mouth more than anything) for the pure truth?
ChelseaFanUK 1,014
Yep ^ and Spurs learnt why you should be coy as possible. But if Jose said after Eto'o there is no more deals, Id believe him. Very much doubt we will sign 2 strikers
Cosmin 2,484
yeah 3 years arent that much? 32 and 29 is a big difference for a football player. we arent talking about somebody who is 20 and 23. also RVP is a completely different type than Etoo. you cant compaare them both at all.etoo is still a good striker but I dont see how he could bring any benefits to us in his state that he is currently in. 2 years without competition and he doesnt knows the EPL etc. he is coming to the most dynamic league. some people seem not to realise that. but yeah Mou wilil fix him as he does wiith all players . think Ba will go now, even though I would have given him the chance to prove himself this season.I was just trying to prove a point, I never compared Eto'o with RVP. I know they are very different. I also know that 29 is not the same as 32, but do you think that people considered RVP young or a player for the future when United signed him? I'd rather use the word experienced to describe Eto'o.
Ollie 4,400
32 years old and people think he's a cripple. RVP is 30, Drogba is 35, there must be loads more like this. The thing with great strikers, even Shearer were that even with the age, they still knew how to finish. Eto'o still has a decent turn of pace so i reckon he'll be good for another 2 years at the top level. He's a short term fix, i dunno how many times i need to say it. He's not getting a 5 year contract ffs.
johnnythefirst 1,076
lmaoI really had a laugh on this one.And then I was :banghead:We'll talk in a year.Eto'o was one of the world's top strikers a couple of years ago, but he'll be 33 in March. Good to fix things for one year max. IF Lukaku is used as the main supersub behind Eto'o (if he's still good enough, we don't know that), I could agree this is a good deal.If they're gonna use Torres though, and Lukaku becomes 3rd in line, he will waste another year, and he'll probably be gone next summer. He's not one to sit on his ass and wait if he knows his chance is not coming.Still believe he was made to play in the PL. So if you don't let him flourish, you'll live to regret it. Barbara 15,149
Barbara what do you think about etoo sign for chelsea ??It's an obvious improvement from what we had.My main point about transfers is that sometimes - most times maybe - you can't get who you want. We tried a few guys in addition to Rooney, I'm sure. We couldn't get them for one reason or the other. So people saying (not the post I've quoted, but I've just read a few of those back a few pages) or implying that we should have gotten Rooney instead. Hello! We've tried at least 2x probably 3 bids and we were rejected. Are we supposed to force players and clubs to accept our bids now?I like Lukaku - I'm not 100% sold into the future ballon d'or material that some here believe he will be - but I think he's promising just fine (the comparison with Drogba though is a stretch imo, as I don't think he has a few tools Didi had some of which you're born with, don't learn). José has my 100% support about how he's handling the boy: adding him minutes, but without adding pressure on his shoulders. What people fail to understand is that he isn't proven at Chelsea yet. Look at Ba - who's older, more experienced and already the final product. He scored in NU and couldn't do the same for us. Do you think that's because the shirt color changed or he unlearned how to play football? No, it's because no one plays against NU the way they play against CFC. So that's why I think it's wise to use Romelu without pressuring the kid. It just sucks that while we do it, Torres is the alternative. And please, saying a guy like Eto'o who still has a lot of football on him is second best to Romelu Lukaku? That's a joke. People haven't heard/watched Samuel in a couple of years and think he's done. They'll have a newsflash when he starts playing for us.In time: it doesn't mean that's my dream signing. The guy I really wanted was either Falcão (who couldn't come because of UK regulation against players managed by investment groups) or Lewa (who only wants Bayern).Cavani was way overpriced imo, I'm not exacly a Rooney fan although I agree those guys would improve more than Eto'o does.I do have some hopes about something that is not unlikely at all. Lewa is adamant on going to Bayern, but Pep is adamant on playing without a target striker (or without any proper striker at all). If Pep stays - and chances are he will - how come will Lewa go to Bayern if he's not the kind of player Pep needs (or wants) in his formation? So if Bayern doesn't want Lewa what will Robert do? He could stay at Dortmund (I would if I were him) or he could accept one of the many bids will come for him. We could be one of those. He said he wants to stay in Bundesliga - he believes it's going to become the best league in the world in the within the next 5 years - but he also says that because he's signalizing about his move to Bayern.I'd rather have Eto'o than the three we have today, and to say Romelu is a better option than Samuel now it's nearly disrespectful. But then you check the member's flag and it makes more sense. That has to be explanation because I can't really understand how someone can even think that! We'll talk in a year.Eto'o was one of the world's top strikers a couple of years ago, but he'll be 33 in March. Good to fix things for one year max. This post has nothing to do with what you said first - and the post I've quoted. You said with all letters that Lukaku is a better option to play than Eto'o. IMO (not the truth or a fact, just my opinion) that's laughable. I agree Romelu proved he can play EPL. He just didn't prove yet he already can play at CFC. And of course Eto'o didn't prove he can play EPL if he never played here! But with his experience, it's easier to adapt. He's well rounded, I don't think he'll have many issues - but a few, probably. Still less than Romelu would have starting all matches now.

Hamilton 2,120
To old or not to old, that's the question?Toni(36?) scored two against Milan last weekend and won the game 2-1..So every thing has to be seen yet if Eto'O is to old.. johnnythefirst 1,076
Also if you want to cherish them you have to carefully nurture them and not throw them in the deep end and pin your hopes for the season on them.Well, if he's the factual number two in line, that's nurturing him. Anything below is blocking his development. Seriously, I wouldn't even complain if he started 90% of the matches off the bench. It's putting Torres above him for no deserved reason at all that seriously tingled my justice-senses.

meetdoscar 335
Welcome to chelsea its nice to have a true african legend in chelsea. In africa Eto'o is considered >>> drogba (no disrespect to our chelsea legend). Funny enough like I've always said he is exactly what we need until lukaku is ready. Imagine us playing in champions league knock out with such an experienced striker. I think he is more well rounded than he used to be when his pace was enough to cause havoc and that's a positive. For sure his contract terms are in line with our club policy but the eto'o i know will earn at least a two year contract. I love him and if he wasn't playing well for his high wages in anzhi the whole world would have known so he is a very very good signing to me. sainttourist 68
People who still complain about our recent transfers should realise how difficult to study market this window. Man Utd, Arsenal still made no real deals, it's not because they don't want or need, but because players with high qualities are not availble at any price. Look at Bale price it's unthinkable, Falcao, Cavani, Marquinhos - 19 years defender for 30m!!! Barcelona couldn't find a proper CB, Man City paid 40m for 28 years old not national team player from small league. And so on.Now we saw Anzhi making clearance sale, and, as Mourinho said, we decided to take advantage of the situation and add quality. I think it's good business. If EtoO will be up to intense game, he will be immense, but if not, he still would be usefull.
Jusek 2,031
Yeah, I think this would be a perfect addition. Two or one year of Eto'o and then Lukaku comes up to be our number one striker. Profit.
Sheva. 5,373
Di natale is still going strong in Serie A at 35. Drogba still beasting at 35. Age is not really a problem, he has the quality like everyone knows, the question will be if he can adapt to the PL after 'wasting' (not financially lol) 2 years in a lower league.
