John Ruddy

Apparently we've made a bid for Norwich keeper John Ruddy.

JOSE MOURINHO last night made a £5million bid to nab Norwich keeper John Ruddy.

But the Chelsea chief must double that to stand a chance of capturing him.

Mourinho’s offer for the England ace was immediately turned down.

Norwich do not want to sell one of their star players — yet the Special One knows Petr Cech is his only senior keeper at Chelsea.

Ruddy, 26, has been an excellent performer for Norwich since he signed from Everton for £400,000 three years ago.

And he was handed his Three Lions debut in a friendly against Italy in Switzerland 10 months ago.

Another attraction for Mourinho is Ruddy is a home-grown player. Premier League rules state clubs must include eight in a squad of 25, something Chelsea struggle with.

It is understood the £5m offer included add-ons but Norwich dismissed the bid out of sight, with boss Chris Hughton looking to improve the squad rather than lose players.

Good keeper but way too expensive for a backup and other than a pay rise a move wouldn't make much sense for the player himself either. He's only 26 and last season made his way to the national team setup but at Chelsea he'd never be anything more than a backup with Cech undisputed number one now and Courtois who's already much better than him at a younger age waiting on the sidelines.

Just get someone over the age of 30 on a maximum fee of around £3m, preferably a free transfer of course if someone like that could be found. Someone like Schwarzer, Enyeama or maybe even Jääskeläinen if he'd be willing to join as a backup.

10m to sit on the bench is a bit expensive. why cant we look for overseas options?

We are looking for HOME GROWN players ;)

That's the reason behind the transfer apparently - it satisfies two criteria:

1) Home Grown

2) Decent Backup

Although I agree Shay Given surely qualifies as Home Grown - even though he's pretty shit nowadays, not as bad as Hilario tho! :)

Where's Lenny Pidgely! Bring Back LENNY :)

I cant forget what happened with drogba that time, i cant imagine him wearing this shirt...

why? Both he and Drogba were entitled to go for that ball, it is just one of those unfortunate things that happens in football. It wasn't deliberate like Stephen Cunt
