League Standings:

3. Chelsea P37 72pts (GD +35)

4. Arsenal P36 67pts (GD +31)

5. Spurs P36 66pts (GD +18)

Remaining Matches:

Chelsea - Everton(H)

Arsenal - Wigan(H) and Newcastle(A)

Tottenham - Stoke(A) and Sunderland(H)

Top 4 us all but secured now with that massive GD over Spurs although if they don't beat Stoke tomorrow, then we will, mathematically, confirmed finish in the Top 4. Anyway, must aim for 3rd now to ensure automatic qualification to the Champions League group stage. If Arsenal fail to beat Wigan next Wednesday, then we will finish in 3rd. Otherwise, we have to beat Everton to guarantee that. Or just match Arsenal's result against Newcastle.

Looking good.

A draw and we're at 73 points, which is the maximum Arsenal can achieve if they win both of their remaining games. Basically that means that if we draw against Everton, Arsenal need to win both games with a goal difference of at least 5 goals total to get ahead of us. They're facing Wigan and Newcastle, both teams who are fighting against relegation so it won't be easy for them. Wouldn't be surprised to see Wigan get a massive boost from today's FA Cup win and even win against Arsenal on Tuesday.

Fuck Spurs, this is all about us and Arsenal now.

Our goal difference is better than Arsenal by +4 - but crucially we have scored 73, whilst Arsenal have scored 67. That means we can draw against Everton, and Arsenal will need a +5 goal swing in their final two games, which of course they have to win. If they draw against the FA Cup winners, they're in a two-way with Spurs for fourth. Simple as that.

Job 95% done as far as CFC are concerned.

To guarantee a 3rd place finish, we need to beat Everton. A draw would be enough provided Arsenal don't win at Newcastle by 2 goals or more. With Newcastle in poor form, wouldn't put it past Arsenal to win by 2 goals or more. So, a win against Everton on Sunday is a must!

The result in the EL has nothing to do with CL qualification.

Going to merge this with EL thread since it does not deserve a separate thread.

 Have just merged with this since it concerns CL qualification.

Actually, a 3-2 win (or more) is enough to put Arsenal in third if we get a goal-less draw.

Yeah. There's all that scoreline complications but would like to think we are capable of scoring at least 1 goal against Everton.

Anyway, I don't imagine that we will have to go into those complications. With Newcastle safe, I expect Arsenal to put a few past them. So we definitely have to win to secure third.

And Alan Pardew apparently said last weekend he wouldn't mind if Newcastle lost 4-0...

Anyway, after getting hammered in their last 2 home games, I would imagine Pardew wants his side to perform well this time and restore some pride at SJP. But generally, agree with you. Beat Everton and we don't have to worry about anyone else.

LOLZ. Why don't take the direct encounters like in the European competition?

I remember one year in an east-european league two teams where equal on point and goals on no1 with the direct encounters both draws. So they had a play off, which was 0-0 and ended 18 to 17 in penalty shoot out.
