The only place to be 11,313
Just a quick thought having seen Gazza in the news earlier, but who are the players that we were linked with that you're gutted we never signed? I remember us being linked with him when he was at Rangers and always thought it would've been awesome to see him here. The other one from that time was Le Tis. There was a point when we looked to be close to getting him for about £5 million (so probably around Hoddle's time) although that could've gone either way. Classic Chelsea player in terms of skill but a lazy bugger. We got Zola instead in terms of skill and had to wait for Benaoyun's arrival to have a nose has prominent. Finally, and this one is still fresh in the mind and extremely painful, Aguero. £10 million cheaper than Torres and would've fitted into this team perfectly. Never hear too much about him in the news and a consistent performer on the pitch. That one hurts to think about.
coolhead23 1,147
Hands down, has to be Augero in the recent past. Everyone of us were so sure that we have him at the Bridge and then the U-turn, would love to know what actually happened. It really pains to see him playing at City, even painful when he tricks the defense and puts the ball in the net. Reminds u of what we got! Spike 12,049
Were we ever linked with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones/English players that actually turned out great?
The only place to be 11,313
Also......and this one is the worst.....Cherno Samba. Were we ever linked with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones/English players that actually turned out great?Rooney not really. Phil Jones a little bit more than the average young English player we get linked with. We were linked heavily with Fellaini and were interested too, but weren't prepared to stump up £15 million for him. Also fun to look at players we're linked with now and probably won't get. Right now that's Luke Shaw.

I do however belive that Shaw will be at Chelsea...one day...Others I think won't happen: Benat, Falcao, Negredo, Markovic, Isco, Bony, Lewandowski. MHL 47 378
Not 'gutted' about not getting anyone really. Disappointed we appeared not to go in big for Rooney.Disappointed we saw so little of Pierluigi Casiraghi, if he'd have stayed fit we might of got really close to winning the league that season.Going back a long way we were rumoured to be really close to signing George Best and he wanted to come here, probably for the women & boozing available on the Kings Road at the time. Would've been great to have seen him in a Chelsea shirt, either at the time or latterly on re-runs.
Heisenberg 1,824
Surely Aguero and probably Neymar in the future
Mufassir08 2,400
I remember i was absolutely shattered when robinho moved to city and even though he flopped over there i still believe he would have come good over here.Aguero is also another one that we missed out on big time. Ankit 3,176
Were we ever linked with Bastian Schweinsteiger? I would love to see him at the bridge one day.Other than that and i guess it's unanimous, it has to be Aguero. It pains to see his stuff at city and realise what could have been! I remember we had a game with atletico when he was playing for them and he scored 2 goals and it was always thought he will end up here. Magic Lamps 11,692
Agüero of course top of the list. What a beast he is and how good he and Drogba would have complemented each other. If we had signed him instead of Torres we probably would have won the league in 2011 and Carlo would not have been dismissed. Honourable mentions: Alexis Sanchez, Di maria, Walcott, Micah Richards, Vincent Kompany, Daniele de Rossi, Franck Ribery, Yaya Toure, Milos Krasic, Adriano, Marton Fülöp (was free, his name is epic and we could have used a decent 2nd goalie)
The Mak 4,459
Aguero for obvious reasons.Silva as well. It would be amazing to see Silva and Mata work their magic here, but maybe Mata might not have turned into the player he is now if it worked out that way.Cabaye definitely. Can only imagine him in the pivot now. And at £6m? Daylight robbery. Now for my love affair with Dortmund. Marco Reus and Subotic/Hummels. Beasts. Enough said. The only place to be 11,313
Just thought of a good one - Stevie G.That looked like a done deal and then all of a sudden Rick Parry is on SSN saying he's staying. The thought of pissing off every scouser was delicious and seeing a few of them burning shirts when they thought he was off was hilarious. From a footballing side it would've been interesting to see if Mourinho could've got Lamps and Gerrard playing together in the same team, but ultimately we got Essien instead and Gerrard still hasn't won a title. This season it's been annoying to see Spurs get Vertonghen and in particular Dembele. He could've been great for us in the midfield but it wasn't to be. I can't remember if we were properly linked with Kompany either (might be thinking of Vanden Borre), but he's the one player I would truly love for us to have gotten. Intelligent, aggressive and a proper centre-back.
