Puts it into perspective

And they reckon they are the world's police force :D Probably THE most fucked up country in the planet.

Again, and I mean every word, truly, truly heartbroken to the Children, staff, etc who cruelly lost their lives yesterday but we all know what happens next. Countless US Politician's gravely shake their head and condemn the killers action................then do absolutely fuck all about it. The politicians should be held responsible for allowing this to carry on regardless.

Maybe the only way to combat this in America is to pass law that, until all guns are banned, every time an atrocity such as this happens, one of the parents who lost a son/daughter should be allowed to walk into the senate, tooled up, and slot the first five politicians she chooses, that might bring about a change methinks. :wank2:

The waste of life is just disgusting... Can't begin to imagine what it would be like to be a parent/teacher/kid that is associated with that school. I am glad we have no such constitutional rights to "bear arms" that enable the massacre of innocents. People have a right to feel safe at home and school, these killings are becoming very frequent and I am genuinely worried for society. Does make you think: what drives these people to do crazy shit like this?

They should only give guns to the police force and military, or people who have an extremely valid reason i.e. farmers can get a shotgun in the uk but before that they should THOUROGHLY SCREEN EVRYONE!!! People will still get their hands on guns but there would be a hell of a lot less of them and it would drastically reduce those numbers.

It won't happen because guns are so widespread now that they wouldn't be able to recover them all and so many people have them. Also witht the amount of weapons they have i am sure there will be thousands of businesses that would go out of business which is also why i can't see them changing everything. But someone has to see that there is something wrong with a system when a random bloke can wander into Walmart (ASDA...) pick up a packet of cheese and onion crisps and a fucking shotgun...

our society is more violent now .. The world I mean not just UK and USA ... Look at films and TV ,,,so much gratuitous violence ..video games ..drug and alcohol abuse all make their contribution . That and an increasingly easy access to weapons is a recipe for disaster . The problem is only going

to get worse ,, on this issue I find it hard to be optimistic. My thoughts now are for that devastated community.

Here is what eminent American writer Roger Ebert has to say:

Let me tell you a story. The day after Columbine, I was interviewed for the Tom Brokaw news program. The reporter had been assigned a theory and was seeking sound bites to support it. "Wouldn't you say," she asked, "that killings like this are influenced by violent movies?" No, I said, I wouldn't say that. "But what about 'Basketball Diaries'?" she asked. "Doesn't that have a scene of a boy walking into a school with a machine gun?" The obscure 1995 Leonardo Di Caprio movie did indeed have a brief fantasy scene of that nature, I said, but the movie failed at the box office (it grossed only $2.5 million), and it's unlikely the Columbine killers saw it.

The reporter looked disappointed, so I offered her my theory. "Events like this," I said, "if they are influenced by anything, are influenced by news programs like your own. When an unbalanced kid walks into a school and starts shooting, it becomes a major media event. Cable news drops ordinary programming and goes around the clock with it. The story is assigned a logo and a theme song; these two kids were packaged as the Trench Coat Mafia. The message is clear to other disturbed kids around the country: If I shoot up my school, I can be famous. The TV will talk about nothing else but me. Experts will try to figure out what I was thinking. The kids and teachers at school will see they shouldn't have messed with me. I'll go out in a blaze of glory."

In short, I said, events like Columbine are influenced far less by violent movies than by CNN, the NBC Nightly News and all the other news media, who glorify the killers in the guise of "explaining" them. I commended the policy at the Sun-Times, where our editor said the paper would no longer feature school killings on Page 1. The reporter thanked me and turned off the camera. Of course the interview was never used. They found plenty of talking heads to condemn violent movies, and everybody was happy.

Did read that in 2009 or so there was almost the same amount as people in the US killed by Firearms as in road accidents

And this is a bit mental:

Just 18 hrs ago, those Republicans in the Michigan House rammed thru a bill making it LEGAL to carry a gun into a school or day care center.

Why would you need to carry a gun into either?!?!?!Seriously!!

The Guardian seems to suggest there are 3.4 million civilian firearms in the UK....http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2012/jul/22/gun-homicides-ownership-world-list

Absolutely huge amount if true, I wonder if they include air rifles and such as firearms

Air rifles are not considered as firearms.
