Fernando Torres

Is it possible (legal) in European football to loan a player and pay for a portion of his wages during that loan? Doesn't seem like this guy is going anywhere, but I'm curious whether Chelsea have considered loaning him last summer or this, or letting him transfer for free while paying off some of his contract (salary).

Of course it's legal, happens all the time. With Torres that's not going to happen because no team will consider him to be worth even a fraction of the wages he's earning.

why people always slating him about how he took big ol money from Chelsea while contribute almost(1 corner in UCL final) nothing?

You cannot blame a person doing a very human thing.

Who amongst you wouldnt want take a lot of money and spent your time on your job just sitting in warm chair and watch a football game, even live from stadium and sit in a very VIP chair?

I hope some of you get enlightenment and stop judging him for doing normal thing. :wank2:

Plenty of people do the respectable thing by joining another club and taking a pay cut if they feel they're not good enough for a big club and don't want to be a burden anymore. For example Kaká took a pay cut from €10m to just €4m a year when he left Real Madrid for Milan last year. That being said it's definitely not the norm among these greedy modern footballers and I perfectly understand Torres if he desperately wants to hold onto the contract that was given to him but then again going to a smaller club might make him actually enjoy playing again, not to mention it going a long way in getting the Chelsea fans to remember him more fondly as compared to the abuse he'll get if he actually stays till the end of the contract and further hinders the club's development.

I suppose it's just a matter of what kind of a person he is and what he values most. He has already earned himself a ridiculous fortune after playing a decade of top level football and earning tens of millions in the process so he doesn't really need the money but he's more than entitled for it, having signed a legally binding contract. Winston Bogarde signed one too but that doesn't make him any less of a cunt.

You can't really compare his situation to regular people like us because none of us here are multi-millionaires, at least not that I know of.

Kaka even decided not to accept any wages when he was injured at Milan. And he didn't overstay his welcome.

Torres should take him as an example.

If he is not going to leave this summer then its perfectly clear that he'll see out his contract. There is nothing we can do as other clubs aren't interested in him anymore and are reluctant to meet his wages.

So I believe there is no point of bashing him. Just have to wait and utilise him somehow. Although I really hope he joins Villa and Lampard in the MLS. He'd continue to earn big and perhaps may even be quite a hit there. Also, I am sure he would sell many shirts :P

Atletico Madrid are apparently ("close") interested in him. It makes sense after losing Costa and Villa and only bringing in Mandzu. We should accept any offer no less than 10 mil euros for him. No need to negotiate too long lest they lose interest, just sell.

Too good to be true.

This has already been mention but going to put some specific quotes here from news sources in English.

Torres could join @Atleti in coming days. #Atletico have spent several days in London negotiating his possible return. (Eurosport)

Chelsea asks about 16 million Euros for Fernando Torres transfer, a figure that #Atletico are trying to reduce. Discussions for Torres have also involved defender Miranda, but #Atletico insist #CFC will have to pay his release clause. (Eurosport)

(@ChelsTransfer)

I honestly believe this would be near perfect for all parties:

Torres gets to return home, something which may reignite his career.

Chelsea get him off their books and there is room for another ST.

Drogba's return would make more sense, and this would allow Lukaku to stay as he would be second choice guided by his idol Didier.

Atleti return a hero which will help them with their fans and they also replace David Villa however his wages may cause financial complications.
