I hate to be the pessimistic cunt (that I am :P ) but today really could have been another West ham. It certainly was similar in terms of performance. We literally only controlled a third of the game: the starting 15mins of each half and we got battered for the other 60 mins. If it weren't for Larson gifting us the penalty just before HT and Mata scoring just after we could have been looking at another defeat imho. If it weren't for Luiz being brilliant and winning every header in the box and Cech's two amazing FK saves we would have definitely conceded more.

yeah and i really expect them to win, but all their qualities are on a level way below us, so if we are clever enough we can thrash them. If we were still the physical side we were one or two years ago, i would be already sure we would have this in our bag as neither Asians nor south Americans are of recognisable size, now we are no different, we have to win this on a technical level. But when we maintain pace and concentration and Rafa prepares us well for these rather unknown opponents, they will not be a match for a -hopefully- kick-started Torres + mazacar + Lamps.

I hear you and your point about us but monterray do play a similar style to athletico and look what happened there granted they dont have a falcao... maybe im just a tad bias because i do watch a lot of concacaf champions league because of my geographical location and my hometown team (very poor) sometimes take part in it..

Wasn't happy with the overall performance because we shouldn't have let them attack us so much but i suppose at 3-0, the game was dead. Happy with the result, happy with Torres because he showed some confidence today and he took responsibility as the striker to help the team. He was excellent today, going to Japan in this mood can only be good. Mata is a magician, i love him but Torres has to get the motm. This was a glimpse of the real Torres today. We might not get it every week but it shows it's still in there somewhere.

Happy with the win but we still have areas to improve. Well played to Torres for his performance, also Hazard for shwoing Cazorla how to play without cheating and his ball for Torres was world class. Same goes to Mata as well (... well he never disappoints). Concerned that they had 2 more shots on target than us. That should not be happening when you compare our quality to their team and the players they had out as well. Also they had 11 corners compared to our 1, which does worry me a little more. Had that been a Stoke or a better team in the air we would of get punished. Anyway the win was the most important thing, focus turns to CWC. Can't help but focus on the Premier League though. That is the most important thing for me, hopefully that Villa game brings us 3 points, which on paper we should have no problems. KTBFFH!

Past two matches Torres has seemed more comfortable with the ball in his feet. He played well today, with a great first goal and an excellent gross by Hazard. Defense was a bit sloppy again, especially after the 2-0 lead. Imo, we let off the gas to much when we get up 2-0 or more.

Just want to put this here as seeing him come on as a sub today sparked this in my head -

Bertrand.

I am so bloody happy he's still working out in our squad right now, even if it is as just a back-up option when the team needs some more sturdiness. He's getting his chances.

He's by no means ready to be our first choice left-back, but I believe he could be ready in even just a season or 2. I really hope he doesn't get sold or we buy some 'top class' left back and then keep him as just a squad player.

What is he... 23 now? I've been watching this guy's every move since we signed him back in '06 and he'd always been my favourite youth player.

Bertrand >>> Maldini

Torres fully deserved MOM now pray it isnt another false dawn

+1 A long way from convincing me that he deserves automatic first choice after January but we shall see how things play out till then.

Still disappointed with the subs that were made apart from the one which was necessary and the second half performance.

All in all a good, and hugely important win. Good to see Frank back, very timely. Strange that our management consider Ashley and Frank as almost has beens, when non other than Glasgow finest still rates Giggs and Scholes highly, both at least four years older than Frank. They have both always kept themselves super fit so, as long as the money works, get them signed up.

Good to see Torres with a smile finally and Victor Moses is really starting to look a proper player.

Very well done to the huge Chelsea turnout yesterday. Easy enough for me to get there from Glasgow, but the turnout from London, etc, was massive. Considering how pony our form has been. Well done to all.

I generally agree with you. As I've said before, people tend to get too down when we lose and too up when we win. We've mostly been the same team all year and that's a team with talent and potential but holes and a lack of depth. (the sort of team fighting for a Champions' League spot.) We'll likely do very well over the next month because we have about 10 games in a row we should win, but I don't think we'll really turn things around until we bring in some new players and a long-term manager.

I am happy we won and hope the trend continues. I hope the team continues to meld together and hopefully what ever fire Rafa has lit under Torres stays lit… but I will wait and see, it is early yet.

I will also pray that no one gets injured in Japan like David Villa did last year. I don't like games that take players so far away and out of the "normal routine". That flight from England to Japan (and back) plus the time change is going to be rough in such a short amount of time. I hope the do well but I hope there isn't an impact on the season.
