Jase 43,479
Perhaps this is the time to start discussing about who is gonna be our main leader on the pitch in the future. As we all know, Terry and Lampard can't go on forever. The former is already 32 y/o this year while the latter is 34 y/o. From the different types of characters in we have in our squad right now, who do you think is suitable to replace Terry and Lampard as captain and vice captain respectively? What kind of characteristics do you look out for particularly to be a captain and/or vice captain? One of my choice right now would be Cahill. Reason being that he is like a clone of Terry. Possess similar playing style and more importantly, he's a strong and wise character on and off the pitch. He is by no means a finished article just yet and can definitely still improve but he has the qualities to be a great leader of the team. Tends to speak quite well to the media too. Jusek 2,031
Yeah, Cahill gets my vote too. He's Terry 2.0 so I think it would be a perfect choice.
Hutcho 8,443
For me, i think that the new captain will probably be Gary cahill in the short term, but i think our next long term captain will be ( if he breaks through) nathaniel chalobah... That is my Guess.
Buffalo talks Blue 85
Damn. It's so hard to think anyone in that place. JT and Lamps have given us so much.I am not quite sure about this, but I think Torres or Mata will do it fine.Mata's of the calm and gentle type. He's creative, productive and not selfish. He encourages his team mates a lot. That's how a team needs a captain to be.Torres has a lot of potential and is full of abilities. He could work well as Mata's deputy. Tomo 21,751
I doubt it will be Cahill, will probably be one of the younger one's with them and Terry having a gradual changeover over about two season's (like Desailly and Terry had).Don't know why but i reckon Bertrand might be a surprise contender. He has already captained some of England's youth teams and looked like he's a leader.

Leif 6,006
Is Cahill only getting these votes of confidence because he's English? ._.Although he shouts a lot on the pitch, he doesn't seem comfortable in press conferences or in interviews etc, where your captain really does need to take control, otherwise he'll end up getting slaughtered by the press. As for Mata, I don't think it would be wise making someone with such a small voice who can still not speak our language too well our captain.Although I really don't want him as captain, Cech feels like the obvious choice. It shows what our team has become (I'm not trying to be negative.)Just a few seasons ago, players like Ballack, Carvalho, Drogba, Essien, etc. would all be in with a shout. OneMoSalah 8,886
I don't know why but Mikel seems a reasonable choice. Hes been here for a while, very experienced now. Always seems to speak very wisely to the media and that. He could be captain/vice captain. Cahill is another reasonable choice tbh because well hes Terry 2.0 Maybe Azpilicueta in the future as well? Wasn't he not chosen as the captain of the Spanish Olympics team? Also laugh at me if you want but Victor Moses has apparently got brilliant mental strength according to Roberto Martinez probably due the main fact that his parents were murdered and he coped well and made it as a footballer... maybe he could be another "surprise" candidate. Amblève. 4,995
Agree. Maybe Cahill as the captain and Bertrand the vice captain? Could work.Wouldn't mind if it happened. Tho, for some reason, I think Bertrand is more likely to do it.I know it's always difficult to pick the right captain but with the players we have right now it seems to be even more difficult, at least for me. A few years ago we had Terry, Lampard, Cech, A. Cole, Malouda, Essien, Drogba, Carvalho, Ballack, Alex and even Joe Cole of which everyone could've been easily our captain. We definitively lack leadership atm.
Ollie 4,400
Cahill all day for me, there's no reason to say otherwise imo. English, in the back 4, has captained before i think and possesses real leadership qualities. Vice captain.... Ivan.

Definitely also need some to step up like Luiz, Ivanovic etc.
Jype 6,398
I think Luiz deserves a shout too. A likable fellow amongst the team and he's always cheering his teammates to go on if we're having a hard match. Might not be the most reliable defender but I believe he has a good mentality on and off the pitch.
