Tactically we lost the game , even if we had Messi today as a striker he'll do nothing because we were just very bad defensivly , no balance between the attack and defence , Atletico were very clever and played a sweet counter attacking football that wins you finals when it is fantastically played , we had 2 days of work more than them , so physically we were good , no excuses , tactically we lost the game.

I said during preseason - half the goals we concede start with some genius losing the ball when he really shouldn't be doing so, leaving players out of position and holes for the opposition to exploit.

It happened frequently today, the most annoying one was when Ramires, instead of controlling a simple pass finds a way to fuck it up and then allowed Atleti to break in numbers

Also i don't think Torres did much wrong today, he was up against 2 good defenders, while Mata and Hazard were kept out of the game by the brilliant Atletico midfield.

If we had found a way to do that with Turan and Adrian, Falcao wouldn't have scored 3.

No....sigh does it have to be mentioned that the greatest club side in our life time is probably also the most smallish side in the world. Does it have to be mentioned that the NT with the most world cups is renowned for their technical skills.

Biggest problem is we are not utilizing our technical players the best way.

They're a superteam.

We're an assorted selection of past it players and future prospects.

Even if our future prospects turn out to be world class there's no way we can play like Barcelona. What are we going to do when we're playing Barcelona or Real Madrid or Bayern or any of the other European teams that are light years ahead of us? Pass the ball about and pretend we're Spanish? No, the only way to beat those teams is to select 11 massive, fast, physically unbeatable players and get them all to stand about 10 yards out from our own goal.

Its impossible to play the Barcelona way, for me the Mourinho era was by far the best , a Chelsea team that scares the opponent , we didnt play beautiful football , it was more a Counter Attacking football but we were winners , hope we'll not lost this.

It isnt so much about Hazard, Torres. They werent even in the game in the first 20 minutes cus Ramirez and Ivanovic were getting raped on the right side. Literally raped!! It was game over after 2-0. David Luiz was shit. And Ramirez was responsible for third goal failing to track Falcao.

Falcao...Damn what a player this guy is. 5'10 but when in the box he is a Giant!!

That is my point, there is going to be games were they can't get force themselves into the game like Mata was anonymous against Barca. My point was the physical players we had in the past would of forced in roads into their penalty area and they wouldn't of given up the fight like they did last night. We can't expect the same result with this new team because they are a different animal to what we had in the past and that is why it was the worst final defeat in the last 20 years for Chelsea football club. When this team plays well they will rip the opposition a new one but when they are having a bad game they will get a good spanking.

That era is gone, now we're changing and will have to live with the bad results we get while this new Chelsea gel.

Bad result No way , maybe we'll not win trophies , but have to be at least in the Champions League , if we cant finish 3rd this season , that means a lot of things.

I'm not saying that we'll win the CL or PL , but to finish with a third place and a Semi Final of Cl would be a great saison , we have a fantastic groupe of players, our main problem is Mikel-Lampard and the inconsistency of our defense , if we replace those two players ( Lampard is my favourite player , but the club is more impotant) i'm sure we can win the league <_<

Exactly. We have a very good squad atm with great depth, but they are a couple problems that need to be fixed before we can truly be at our best.

That was the worst performance I've seen since Sunderland (I deliberately didn't watch the Newcastle and Liverpool games last season because they were pointless). Thankfully, despite what some other members make it out to be, that wasn't an important match at all, and I'll gladly take today's loss if it means we learned something valuable against a strong side that will benefit us in other more important competitions. Anyway, credit where it's due; Falcao and Atletico were immense today, and Simeone's tactic was spot on. It's a bit ironic, though, that we tried to dominate the possession while they did what we did against Barcelona. Taste of our own medicine, I guess. Yuck.

My thoughts exactly.

Still don't think that our new playing system is tactically right with Mikel and Lampard as the DM. It has to be one plus another. Both are to slow to occupy in the middle of the park and Lamps has a tendency to get caught out of position too often, as was shown against Atletico on the counterattack.

RDM has a fair bit of work ahead of him especially with making us defensively solid.

I keep reading move on! Move on to what? being ripped apart by Reading and getting yet another slice of luck? There is something seriously wrong with CFC if our players are continually allowed to under perform without consequence!

They ought to be ashamed of themselves for their complete lack of effort last night. If the manager cannot get guys to perform eff him off! This malaise has been at Chelsea for 4 years now and there are only six of the old guard left, Cech, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Mikel, and Malouda: only two of them should still be here.

yes Athletico defended en masse and broke with energy unlike our prima donas who thought being there and trotting around was good enough

Your statement: "by buying technique over physique we have to accept that we won't win too many trophies."

My counter: I used Barca and Brazil successful history to counter your argument. Quite honestly there is no evidence of Physical players> technical players as a formula for success, contrary more evidence to support the other. The game of football has always been about technique.

Physical players> technical players is a English/British mentality, look no further then England NT to see how much of a fail this mentality is.

No one said we should play like Barca or pretend we are Spanishfacepalm.gif ffs technical players /=/ Barca or Spanish players.

The last sentence in your post.....never mind i am not even going to comment.

Stop with 'Technical players' please , Balance is the key , I would love to have a team like this against QPR :

Cech

Azpi-Cahill-Terry-Cole

Mikel-Romeu

Mata-Eden-Bertrand

Torres

May sound a bit defensive, but its not , Romeu has great passing ability and is better at defending than Lampard , Mikel is on form , two good matches from him , he must start , Mata will rest , he could miss the game but if he plays he'll be fresh and Bertrand must be a regular starter now he proved to be a very good player , a team that has technical players up front and physical players in defense , why not ?

We played like it was a friendly game and they played like it was an european final.

I didn't understand many things.

Mata was collecting the ball very deep and I didn't understand why Hazard played a lot with his back to goal quite high in the pitch like a big holding forward moving from left to right especially as there was no one playing around him, what was the idea

I don't know if the belgian commentator was joking or not when he said the players had a party in the yacht of Abramovitch the day before :D
