BLionheart 516
Before we even kick a ball in our 1st official game of the season , i think we have the rights to display our views on the success rate of our transfer window , preparations for the new season and overall team competiveness .Signing amazing talents like Hazard , Oscar and Marin is very promising , the possible addition of Hulk and a back-up RB is mouth watering , Do that and you have the ultimate combination of pace , trickery , creativity , goal threat and power upfront , sign a decent RB and IMO we have the best defense in the league , but all of this will be hugely wasted because we got our priorities wrong.Even with this lethal attack and steel defense we will struggle to win games , simply as many have said and as many have heard before football battles are won in midfield , and our midfield is abysmal !!This lethal attack will not be utilised if they struggle to get the ball in the final third ! This solid defense needs protection and will break when facing opponents strikes single handedly.A RW and a RB shouldn't be our current priority , it should have been a deep-lying playmaker preferrably someone like Modric , Sahin or Moutinho , sign one of those and you have the ultimate formula for success , our double pivot has been exposed and looked clueless numurous times !!Please don't give me they were great in the UCL shit because in the UCL against Barca and Munich our midfield was actually made of 5 players not just a doube pivot .In January we will certainly be looking to add in that area after being exposed during the 1st half of the season. Term-X 7,891
This will be the season Mikel gets found out, with the style of play under RDM last season he was in his element. If Lampard is the first name on the team sheet, week in week out, january won't come quick enough. In a 'title challenging' Chelsea side, Ramires is not a first team player. He was good under RDM as we played defensive football under Scolari, AVB, Ancelotti he was terrible. And I am sure he will be terrible this season. LDN Blue 7,903
I would've been happy if we'd attempted to try for Modric again.. What a shame. But I agree with OP, our midfield isnt settled yet!

You dont buy players like Oscar, Marin, Hazard to play defensive football

I guess only time will tell what RDM's approach will be.

Santiago. 1,500
Stated it once, was laughed atStated it twice, was ignored. Stated it three times, people finally started seeing the ideaStated it now four fuckin times, people are now realizing it. We can put who ever in the attack and wings, but as long as Mikel and Lampard are our Defensive Central midfielders, we will continue to see the same results. Badboy 1,526
I still can't believe that we're going into the season with only Danny and Fernando as our striker options. What is pissing me off is I know for a fact that we're going to buy a striker in January so its a little worrying. Oscar should muscle Lampard out and I really hope Terry is muscled out of the team too !

And for good reason as he is still our best central defender imo.
Term-X 7,891
I don't get your point here...Pretty self explanatory...He would be a great 'option' in a title challenging side, i.e.. not as the first name on the teamsheet, the new look Chelsea needs technical players. John Terry is a washed up has been and he's been on the decline for years now, we should of taken the money from city when we had the chance. Gary Cahill will hopefully bench him this season ! Sheva. 5,373
You can't (expect to) fix every problem in one window. Not just because of money, but the right players are not always available. Before this window opened, it was pretty clear we needed a striker, a right winger, a left winger, more creativity in the side, a midfielder and a RB.We have solved creativity and left wing options with the signings of Oscar, Hazard and Marin. And look close to getting a RB.We're also linked with many forwards so we should get a right winger/striker before the window closes. And the only area left will be midfield, which can be solved in January - or this window if the right player comes along for the right price like RDM has been saying. I am not saying he is as good as he was two years ago, but is still better than GC and DL. Perhaps me being english makes me feel more loyal to him because he is the english captain of our english club, but he definately isn't washed up....John Terry - Captain Leader Legend... Peace. 4,352
Some weeks ago, I desperately wanted us to buy a world-class striker. But I've come to reason : our midfield is crying out for a deep-lying playmaker. The midfield battle is the most important thing in football, into my eyes. Whatever the quality of your strikers, whatever the quality of your defenders, if you don't win the midfield battle, you will struggle to score goals and to have a rock solid defense. If your midfield isn't good enough : your defenders will be exposed and thus the back-four will be vulnerable ; your forwards won't be feeded efficiently and thus your attack will be toothless. At the moment, considering the setup we play in (i.e. the 4-2-3-1), we don't have what is required to have a double-pivot good enough. Therefore, if we plan to continue to play in this formation, we have to buy a deep-lying playmaker. If we don't, I can picture the season to be very, very long. And if we don't buy this kind of player, the only solution to have a good midfield is to ditch the 4-2-3-1 in order to play in a setup allowing us to play a playmaker (that we already have into our squad) in the midfield (4-3-3 springs to mind). YouNameIt 1,511
Fulham scores 5.Swansea scored 5.WBA scored 3.We scored 0 against BRIGHTON. Yeah, we've made awesome signings but we still got serious issues. I mean, did the board forget why they were after Modric?
