Daniel Sturridge

Anelka is a natural striker, but could do a job on the right and did so very well for us.

:fainthv9: The guy was almost 30 years old and had played the striker role for many other clubs before. Danny has all the right to complain about being played out of position and its just sad that some fans overlook him and doubt his potential.

I think danny should work with the right wing position since it will mean he will get more playing time. He should forget about the C.F position for now because it will be handed to him when rdm realises that torres is gonna cost him his job

Torres can't go on playing every second of every game and therefore when the chance comes I really hope Danny seizes it.

That may be true, but he was much more effective in front of goal.

Yeah Anelka was a good finisher, was always calm and composed.

Actually given Anelka's past record you would expect him to be the one crying all over the place to play as main striker.

I know Sturridge wants to play as main striker, but realistically he will get much less playing time there than he would on the right.

And if we get another striker it will only make it more difficult for him to play there.

He. Cannot. Simply. Just. Play. On. The. Wing.

This is honestly so baffling.

The same people crying out that we have enough strikers are saying play Sturridge on the wing?

Then what happens if Sturridge is injured? Who is Torres' back-up?

What if Torres gets injured instead and Sturridge plays up-front. Do we just put Ramires on the right wing again?

I'm not saying he should, but that he certainly has the ability to do so.

Also, I'd expect Marin to fill in that role if that does happen.

I found Anelka incredibly frustrating on the right for the most and he used to get a lot of stick on here. But he was good as a striker.

Sturridge deserves a chance up front. It's not like our first choice striker is tearing defences apart. I have a feeling he'll do better than Fernando.

It's not like Sturridge will tear defences apart himself, but at least he will have a good reason to not pass to a wide open teammate and take shots from impossible angles...

I know but at least he actually does know how to get past players. His fantastic pace is a great weapon as well, for counter attacks and when sent through into space. And he's never afraid to take his chances.

I do think people exaggerate his selfishness. Don't get me wrong, he definitely is selfish (which is also due to a lack of vision) but it's not all that bad. There's too much focus on the bad he does in general.

Totally agree mate Sturridge is very talented but his selfishness is a liability.

I think it's unfair to label him 'Selfish' per se.

He gets some cameo roles and tries to prove everything in those few minutes.

For TeamGB he wasn't selfish at all and played really well...

I think it's frustration, he wants to prove he is the best - so tries too hard.

It's not that bad, but moments like that change games. For example Ramires* did not pass to Torres for a tap in and we had to wait till the 81st minute to put away Reading.

Sturridge doesn't pass to a wide open Torres early in the game against Arsenal, we end up losing 5-3.

It doesn't happen a lot, but you would really hope players think more about the team than they do personal glory.

I do agree with the bolded part though, we will all see how he does when he eventually gets his chance.

*He's not usually like that, so he deserves to be cut some slack.

That kinda of pisses me off, Ramires had every reason to go for goal after beating two defenders - same as Torres a little later who could also tried to square it to someone. Ramires is very good getting into goal scoring position from midfield - he is wasteful with his chances but most of his opportunities come after some good work from himself to create the opening. He scored one of our most important goals last season and it was also one of the best goals scored in the CL History - and from that angle he did curl it pretty well but that was one of the few instances when Reading's goal keeper actually did his job.

Anyhow judging from both their respective Chelsea carriers I trust Ramires a little bit more to score a goal than Nando - he also outscored Torres last year.

Did you see what i wrote after?

Anyway there's really no excuse for not passing to an open teammate, except if you score then no-one gives a shit
