Because most people would rather be single than with someone they don't love.

If Hazard staying doesn't feel right for us, would Cahill feel the same about being here? knowing fans would happily upgrade on him. If Hazard does the business on the pitch he could be a secret Spurs fan for all i care, players being "one of our own" is nothing more than a nice bonus, especially in the modern day.

Look, I already said I doubt Hazard's commitment will drop if he does stay and that's not even the point.

I don't even know why you're comparing Hazard's situation with Cahill. Put the analogy earlier aside for a second, how is Hazard would be "forced" to stay if he can't get his Madrid move and us replacing Cahill with someone better even the same?

The point is loyalties work both ways. We are the best Cahill's ever going to get and it's likely Hazard is the best (in his position) we are going to get for the foreseeable future at least.

Not sure how saying "it doesn't feel right if Hazard stays only because he couldn't get his Madrid move" suddenly becomes all about loyalty. You read too much into the analogy, Tomo.

Excellent move it would be, i think too much generally is made of the armband. Because in every locker room everyone knows who the leaders are and they don't need an armband to direct them to.

In this case it would be a great motivational tool, to make Eden take ownership of the team. Challenge Hazard to take his performances even further and make him feel responsible for the team performances and result.

Taking the captaincy, signing that new contract and committing to spending the prime years of his career at the club could well end up making Hazard a club legend right up there with the likes of Drogba, Lampard, JT etc. At the moment he's not even close to that status tho.

Even if the likelihood of winning trophies is bigger at Real Madrid, he'd still be just one of the regular guys there but at Chelsea he can be a real club icon. If the man has any affection to the club that should at the very least make him consider it.

Corrected that for you to my opinion mate 😉

In 30 years Hazard will always be mentioned besides Frank, Didier and Jt imo

IMHO one of our biggest mistakes was losing Mata. He would have been one of our all time bests if it wasn't for Mou. He started as he meant to go on.

MADRID RULE OUT HAZARD MOVE

Real Madrid will not sign Eden Hazard this summer as new coach Julen Lopetegui wants to make Isco a key part of his project at the Bernabeu, reports AS.

Madrid have been linked heavily with the Chelsea forward since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus earlier this month.

However, AS report the European champions have definitively ruled out a move for the Belgium international due to Lopetegui’s confidence in Isco.

Madrid are admirers of Hazard but are not going to sign him and are aware that he would cost around €200m this summer.

They are also keen to avoid blocking the first-team path for Marco Asensio, and have dismissed the prospect of making a ‘Galactico’ signing this summer.

Thats that then lol

Poor Hazard if this is true. Did his best to whore himself out to Madrid. Unlucky!

It is peculiar though, even with Real not pushing for him. We all know he wants to go there. He has made all the noise for the past few years but isn't prepared to hand in a transfer request to force it. Is he undecided or afraid that Real might not come after him if he goes all out to force the move?

Hes not got that strong character to fully believe in himself I dont think. I've always thought hes had some character or mental weaknesses. And they come out from time to time and you can see it in him on the pitch.

Was talking in another thread and was said that making him captain might give him a bit more ooomph. It seems to have helped him with Belgium.

I'm willing to try owt for the team but I dont see him being able to stir up the team to do better when he has that trouble with himself at times.

How will Dave take it?
