Hulk

Where there is smoke, there is usually fire, so it is likely with all the rumours flying around that Hulk is one of our major transfer targets this summer.

However it is not out of the question that the Porto president is actually telling the truth and no official offers have been made.

The Marin deal came out of the blue, nothing was rumoured about Victor Moses until we made an offer, and the media were also adamant Hazard was on his way to United even after we had won the Champions League. They don't seem to have a genuine idea of what Chelsea are doing. Perhaps Hulk isn't the primary target and whilst the media think otherwise it allows us to focus on our genuine deals without rumours causing other club's interests or inflated transfer fees.

I would actually love us to buy Hulk, but thought I would just put another spin on the current situation.

No, it has been very well documented that Chelsea officials were negotiating with Porto. The situation, as far as i'm aware, is that Porto know what Chelsea are willing to pay but it doesn't match their valuation of Hulk. Whether or not this has changed over the past few days, I don't know. I think it's safe to say at this point that Hulk is definitely the club's first choice for the RW position, whether or the media know the back up option, I'm not sure.

Remember, there is a difference between an official offer and an unofficial enquiry. Hulk wouldn't be able to officially join us until July 1st anyway, so i'd expect some movement in negotiations over the coming week or so.

Think it might be better of us to pull the plug on this transfer and look elsewhere rather than wasting our time with Porto when they seem adamant on playing hardball over the transfer.

If this little snipey comment was aimed in part at me then the quote I gave was from, what I believe to be, a respectable source; note:

"Brazilian + Latin American soccer news/transfers. Sky Sports correspondent. Brazil's Head Researcher for Football Manager, writer at TheElastico + Just Football."

I would argue that is a pretty reputable source and not a "random person". So maybe check it yourself before you piss your pants.

Also, back on topic: http://www1.skysport...helsea-transfer

Hope skysports isn't too random a person for you Henrique you clown.

you also should get banned for the lack of quality in your posts. same to gary gordon guy.

He has a valid point, I don't think it's pathetic at all.

A valid point? Oh cut it...I see the Hazard and potential Hulk deal has made you guys gone mad and spoiled.

Hazard - Mata - Ramires/Sturridge is more than good enough to win the league and more. If not, then please do tell me why.

I still really want him badly if the plan is to line up Hazard, Mata and Hulk behind Torres. Bringing Hulk here would give our team a new dimension. I've been following him for a couple of years now and I really like his game, it's rather unique and exotic to watch.

its all about the triple threat of Hazard, Mata and Hulk behind Torres, and we all know if needed Hulk Mata AND Hazard track back even torres puts a shift in for the team!

i really can see why the board want this as a starting line up, its just purely IMMENSE

Remember hulk would fill 2 areas of the squad that require a player - a RW and ST.

We could easily spend £30-40m on 2 players for those positions and neither may not be near hulk's quality.

We've all seen the value of players like ivanovic and ramires who can adapt to multiple positions.

Also getting only one player will free up an extra space for one of the younger players to maybe feature in a handful of games during the season.

No, it really isn't. It isn't acceptable to play Ramires and Sturridge out of position. You can't go into the season without a proper right sided attacker when you've had the chance to obtain one. We need to stop putting square pegs in round holes.

I'm glad people are seeing the pros of signing Hulk now. As I've said, guy fits in like a glove.

Pros:

-Powerful winger

-Might be decent backup for ST.

Cons:

-Porto want 38 million

-Pretty average in terms of ability

-Already 25, won't really improve much.

-Looks great against in an inferior league..half the LB's in that league are like Bosingwa.

Tell that to Drogba!!!

Which is natural, of course Porto are going to want a lot of money for their best player.

You can't be average when you're the best player in Portugal, when you're a Brazil starter, when your club has put a €100m release clause on your head. Hulk is a good player, why can't you appreciate that? If Hulk was bought for £25m, would you say he's average still?

-Already 25, won't really improve much.

He doesn't need to. He's already a quality player, who would improve our side a lot.

The same inferior league where we signed Ramires and David Luiz from just last season? They're really terrible players aren't they.

Your cons are lame.

You're talking as if a player in his mid twenties is on the way down. If we got hulk we should be buying a player at his peak. The club needs the right balance between youth, experience and players in their mid twenties 'peak' years.

The argument about coming from the portugal league - yes its a risk but shevchenko and torres have proved buying from a 'stronger' league offers no guarantees. The same argument could be applied to hazard but i don't see anyone complaining. Some players thrive in a stronger league and go from strength to strength. Drogba and van nistelrooy spring to mind as both moved for big money.

My Pros and cons for Hulk:

1) Would give Chelsea a natural RW who wants to play there.

2) Hulk is very skilled player with a fabulous left foot.

3) Hulk can be very creative both with passing and with skill moves.

4) Hulk is not a good CF, but can cover there if needed.

Cons:

1) 38 M is ridiculous for a player with Hulk's pedigree. This would be one of the most expensive players ever. We just paid 32M in a bidding war for Hazard who was far more sought after than Hulk.We paid 23.5M for Mata who was 5 years younger and had a better pedigree than Hulk.

2) The signing doesn't address Chelsea's major need of a striker to replace Drogba.

3) Hulk, like every player, has major flaws in his game. He doesn't always track back defensively and he takes a lot of optimistic shots.

4) The fan's reaction to Hulk A). Already, I see so much of "Hulk is a fabulous player"...based on what? How many people on here have watched Hulk for more than a few meaningless games? You're telling me that we have tons of fans of the Portuguese league on here? While there are some who may have watched Hulk plenty, I am positive that the vast majority of people saying "he's world class" are doing so primarily from youtube videos and playing with him in FIFA. This not a Hulk thing specifically. It's people pretending they watch 50 football matches a week or something and are able to have informed opinions of players playing in Portugal, France, Holland, Belgium, Spain,Scottish second division, etc...or that they can make informed decisions on players after watching a couple of matches. You've seen it already-the "Hulk smash" and "The Avengers" memes. I don't want a Chelsea marketing product, I want Chelsea players. I already look on Chelsea boards and see Torres as the most common avatar (maybe second after Drogba) and it's shocking. David Luiz's popularity has also greatly outstripped his actual contribution to the club. The same thing will happen with Hulk.I want Chelsea players to be popular because of what they do for Chelsea, not because of their image.
