Fulham Youth 2 Chelsea Youth 1

Recommended Posts

Chelsea's youth team surrendered a lead against Fulham on Friday, eventually going down 2-1.

It was two goals in the last ten minutes that beat the young Blues, after an 80th minute goal from Nikki Ahamed looked to have given Chelsea the win.

On a windy day, manager Paul Clement was impressed with how his side dominated possession, but was frustrated at giving up the lead so late.

'Leading with 10 minutes to go and to go on and lose was disappointing but we did play well,' he said.

'We have to know how to shut a game off and stick through; we were our own worst enemy in that area. We were in a good position but didn't make the right decisions.'

The first half was a quiet affair, with Chelsea playing well into the wind. There were few chances, but Fulham's Lewis Smith shot straight at Chelsea keeper Niclas Heimann after ten minutes, while at the other end Frank Nouble had an opportunity for Chelsea.

Pleased to come in at 0-0, Chelsea began the second half well, with Fabio Borini shooting over on 50 minutes after Lee Sawyer had played him in. Two minutes later Jordan Hibbert skied a chance from a superb Jordan Tabor corner.

With ten minutes remaining we took the lead as schoolboy Nouble got in down the left and crossed to the far post where Ahamed, pictured, was waiting to nod home.

The lead was short-lived though as Chelsea gave the ball away in our own third. Fulham crossed and Heimann collided with a Fulham centre-half. The ball ended up in the goal, and as players looked on and waited, the referee failed to award a free-kick, meaning the goal stood.

With time ticking down, Chelsea searched for a winner, but gave the ball away in midfield, and the Fulham forward was able to turn and finish from outside the area.

Chelsea team v Fulham (4-3-3): Niclas Heimann; Tom Taiwo, Nana Ofori-Twumasi ©, Jack Saville, Jordan Tabor; Jordan Hibbert (sub Gael Kakuta), Lee Sawyer, Daniel Philliskirk; Nikki Ahamed (sub Adam Phillip), Fabio Borini, Frank Nouble.

Clement and his players now turn their attention to Tuesday's FA Youth Cup quarter-final at Port Vale. They travel to Stoke on Monday to prepare for the game, which is live on Chelsea TV.
