why talk about meritocracy sometimes as the answer to some players and ignore it for others?

If one player is doing well he deserves to be in the team, but to actually make it to the team he has to not only do well but better than the other contenders to the spot. Azpilicueta did better at RB than Bertrand, so the same meritocracy that would have played Bertrand, plays Cesar instead. And in the case they both showed the same 'deserving' rate, then it's down to preference, but why on earth should we question the meritocracy in Mourinho's choice of Cesar in the LB when he did so well there? So just because Ryan is a natural LB he deserves better even if Cesar played better? Then it comes down to rightfulness - as if Ryan had the rightful spot - instead of merit. I swear I can't follow this reasoning... I mean one could question why Ryan isn't playing, but label it down to a failure in meritocracy when Azpilicueta has been one of our best players in the whole team, not only in the position when playing in RB makes no sense whatsoever.

As for Kevin and his work-rate, I can't say from Werder Bremen because I didn't watch it, but for us? Did nothing for me. He has started 4 matches (Hull, ManU, Swindon and Arsenal) and he has a total of 1 tackle, 0 interceptions, 0 blocks, 0 clearances. I know stats won't tell the whole story, but it's doesn't scream work-rate imo.

**pretends I read all the posts from pages 215 to now***

After today, I'd really like Mou to give KDB a chance in the Lampard role or just in lieu of Lampard really. I haven't seen him enough to know how he's defensively but we can certainly use his offensive abilities to start an attack.

Kevin is actually a very technical player with a fantastic touch. That's how little we've seen him play at Chelsea ...

So I'd much rather see him in la liga, but indeed as a sale, not on loan, no value in that for Chelsea except perhaps increasing his market value again ... but that has nothing to do with football

Of course he's technically very good, but the man can also run and keep running. That's why he did so great in Germany last year. If he has to leave, I'd rather see him there, because frankly, it's just a better league than Spain. Take away the top three teams there and all you get is mediocrity. Also, it won't be much easier to get a starting spot at Atletico if you ask me. He might as well just stay here then.

Bayern and Dortmund are much better teams than the rest of the german teams.

Most of the german teams don't know how to defend.

Would love to see him in Dortmund.. IMO would be great team for him.

Wouldn't be much different, Mkhitaryan who is a far better player atm is playing CAM role. On the wing there are Reus and Kuba, Kuba is probably still slightly ahead of Kevin in term of quality atm but in the long run Kevin might be better. He should go to some team like Wolfburg where he will definitely play in those attacking positions he wants and all the time because there are no competition.

First line is true. Second line i don't know. There's a gap between them, yes, but there's still a good base of teams in Germany. All of them financially healthy, most of them playing for sold out stadiums. If it weren't for foreign investors and the free rides Barca and Madrid get from the Spanish government every year, it would be Europe's best league by far. :)
