Aguero

Sterling Silva De Bruyne

It wouldn't be much better than our front 4, quality wise, and would would be inherently poor at tracking back and defending - they'd need better than Fernandinho-Lampard to do that. Matic Cesc would not survive either. They'd need something like Kondogbia - Pogba/Vidal. And for Kompany to remember how to defend.

Willian = Sterling

De Bruyne = a less quality Hazard

Aguero = Costa

Silva = creator (Cesc) but pushed further up, to make up for the fact that behind them is the most uncreative central midfield ever.

It'd be a quality team, but ours is more balanced and our manager is better - we could get a win over them.

We have City away second game of the season. It shall be an interesting match.

Crooked comparison tbh. That front four easily beats Chelsea's in terms of offensive quality. Aguero, Silva, De Bruyne beats Costa, Oscar and Willian comfortably (Hazard over Sterling). Matic>Fernandinho/Fernando, Cesc=Toure (when both players are in form).

But the question is how they would function as a unit. Chelsea's midfield is proven.

£50-60m for De Bruyne... Jesus christ. We got an absolute bargain for Hazard.

2012 was pre Bale/James/Suarez/Neymar/Cavani/Falcao/Di Maria/David Luiz (I smile every time I think about that transfer) transfers. Market has shifted significantly.

Mangala cost City more than Hazard.

My point precisely. But my argument is that in the end City will still be liable to being counter attacked - none of that front 4 will want to track back therefore leaving whoever is in central midfield exposed, unless it's Pogba-Kondogbia or something like that. Fernando/old Toure-Fernandinho would get fucking slaughtered. They have better offensive quality but we have the better balance. If we sat back we would struggle. But if we play our counter attacking game they are in danger. Aguero is not much better than Costa personally. It's there but negligible difference. Our overall squad even if they sign all of their players is still stronger. Especially if Zouma gives our CB pairing a little more pace. Their defence now that Kompany forgot how to football and that 36 year old guy they have, Mangala and their poor fullbacks (even Zabaleta would not get into our team ahead of Ivanovic)

Obviously, I'm biased as a CFC fan but unless they buy a few defensive players too (so basically ending up spending £500m in a single window) I'm not overly worried. Arsenal's squad worries me more now that they have a WC keeper, if they replace Mertesacker and get a good striker (see: Lacazette; Benzema; Bony)[Especially Bony, he'd give them physicality that they haven't seen for many years) then they're in title contention with us. Luckily Arsene "Specialist in failure" Wenger will probably be thrifty instead. E

That's not entirely true. De Bruyne does defend, I don't know why I keep reading that here. Does he defend as capably as Oscar (in his first half of the season form), or run up and down like Willian? No. But that doesn't mean he strolls around when his team doesn't have possession. Just recently in the game against Wales, De Bruyne did plenty of back tracking. Just to use as an example, he averaged 1.2 tackles and 0.7 interceptions per game last season. Oscar (1.9 and 0.5), Willian (1.0 and 0.4). And De Bruyne is usually among the top 3 when it comes to distance covered.

Silva is no slouch either. Far from it. Sterling I'm less familiar with in this regard but I'm sure he'd have to defend if he joined City. Even Robben defends so who is Sterling not to do so.

Edit: You are right about the functioning of their centre midfield though. It's why I don't understand how Schneiderlin, or a different player of his ilk, was not a priority.

Chelsea and City play different football, different systems. Both have achieved succes with their own ways. I always fancy Chelsea to beat City in a game, and even with De Bruyne and Sterling, Chelsea would be favourites to win the league for me.

Sterling wouldn't I think. I read that much of the reason he wants to leave Liverpool is so he doesn't play wingback in Brendan's wacky 3-5-2 formation. Combined, Sterling-Silva-DB is quite a lazy AM 3. But that's okay, as long as they aren't planning to play Fernando-Fernandinho behind them, and they are willing to recover the ball from deep.

We do have the strongest side overall, though. With a bit more depth it could be a treble winner.

He wouldn't be a #10 there, he'd probably play on the right. A front four with Agüero up top, Silva in the middle, and potentially Sterling and De Bruyne on opposite wings is ridiculous.

It would be:

Aguero

Silva - De Bruyne - Sterling.

Playing wingback and putting in defensive work as a winger are two completely different things though. I think he's right to complain about playing as a wingback, that's not how you use players like Sterling. But if he were to be unwilling to defend as winger/attacking midfielder, he's destined to fail at any top side. All players have to defend. Whether that's by tracking back like in Mourinho's system, or by pressing. Unless your name is Cristiano or Messi, only then do you get freedom when defending.

  • 2 weeks later...

rumours are spreading that bayern will sign him in germany

Doubtful. They just signed Vidal and Kimmich.

And have about 3-4 kids coming up the ranks that play cm.

KDB imo should look into Juventus when pogba is eventually sold to barcelona or psg.
