Sheva's Ready For Reserves

Recommended Posts

Andriy Shevchenko will be leading the attack for the Chelsea reserves tonight as the Blues host Aston Villa at Brentford, depending on the result from a pitch inspection at 3pm.

If the results of the pitch inspection mean postponement of the game then we will announce the news on chelseafc.com.

Shevchenko made a brief appearance against Huddersfield on Saturday after returning from a back injury he sustained during the first team's meeting with Aston Villa on Boxing Day, which ended 4-4.

The Ukrainian striker will play alongside new Argentinean signing Franco Di Santo, in the game that can be seen live on Chelsea TV, for the first time ever as we seek retribution from the Birmingham side for our earlier defeat in the season.

When the reserves travelled to Birmingham last year they came away with a six-goal deficit, three of which were scored in the last ten minutes as the reserves amassed our third defeat in a row.

But Di Santo will be hoping to add to his goal tally for the Blues after scoring in his debut last week in the 2-2 draw with Fulham where Jimmy Smith, tonight's captain, also added his name to the score-sheet.

Jeffrey Bruma, Dutch Under 17 international and Chelsea schoolboy, will make his debut for the reserves tonight while Ben Sahar is expected to start in the attack alongside Shevchenko and Di Santo.

Aston Villa will have 35-year-old former Liverpool and Portsmouth midfielder Patrik Berger in their starting line-up.

The full Chelsea line-up is: Rhys Taylor, Shaun Cummings, Jeffrey Bruma, Carl Magnay, Patrik van Aanholt, Jimmy Smith ©, Ben Sahar, Sergio Tejera-Rodriguez, Franco Di Santo, Andriy Shevchenko, Miroslav Stoch.

Subs: Michael Woods, Niclas Heimann (GK), Gael Kakuta, Fabio Ferreira.

The Aston Villa line-up is: Elliot Parish, Eric Lund, Nathan Baker, Damian Bellon, Ciaran Clark, Stephen O'Halloran, Moustapha Salifou, Marc Albrighton, Nathan Delfounseo, Barry Bannan, Patrik Berger.

Subs: Harry Forrester, David Bevan, Danny Earls, Eric Lichaj, James Collins.

Kick-off is 7pm and admission is £5 for adults, £3 for oaps/juvs, free to season ticket holders. The nearest railway station to Griffin Park is Brentford, which is easily accessible by rail from both Waterloo and Clapham Junction. Gunnersbury is the nearest tube station which is only a mile away from the ground on the District Line.

If you can't make it to the game, you can watch it live as part of Chelsea TV's Monday Night Live.

The programme will start with all Chelsea's latest news. For the match, Scott Minto will provide expert analysis and Tommy Langley co-commentates.

After the final whistle, Minto and Gigi Salmon will be taking phone calls and emails from supporters on any Chelsea-related matters. If you have a question, you can send it now to [email protected].

Haha, that team could beat half the teams in the prem :P perhaps? Should be a good run out for Sheva.

Lol, wouldn't go that far, the defence is extremely young. But that Front line could certianly be a top class forward line. I would expect the Villa defence are cacking themselves at the thought of playing against Sheva, Di Santo and Sahar. And Miroslav Stoch has been awesome, will be great to see him play down the middle again.
