Conte has turned this guy into one of the best CBs in the league.

Cant wait to see what he does with Zouma.

I just can't agree with this I'm afraid.

For me, Gaz is exactly the same player he was last season when he was taking the blame for things which were not his fault. Scour the world, select the best centre back you can think of, partner him with a clearly past it John Terry to his left and Branna to his right, then play him behind our front six of last season. The result will be chaos.

Antonio hasn't improved Gaz, he's improved the team and that seems to be allowing many people to get a better take on our number twenty-four's capabilities.

From day 1 until even before our game today, he's struck me as having a pathetic mentality for a top team, and it eats at me. A, 'I'm lucky just to be taking part - lucky just to be competing against the best in Europe!' mentality. No desire to be nor any self belief in being truly great. Not even good enough for Tottenham; his potential is Everton. For anyone who agrees with me, it's like having stakes in a top company, which by default needs everything to go flawlessly, and as a shareholder knowing that the slightly retarded, Make a Wish Foundation kid is still manning an important role even after being given his sympathy month on the job. Let's get back to the real world now; you can't let someone do what they want forever just because they're a chummy lad, especially when there are experts at much smaller companies wasting away, experts who could elevate your company to a truly elite status. Little Johnny would find himself work at a new company, no doubt one of big clout despite his lack of expertise, because that's what being associated with the best does - it creates a halo-effect - which Cahill is currently blessed to have disguising his inadequacy.

I'll never believe my eyes when people pretend that him being English isn't the only reason he hasn't been exiled. Make him Colombian and he'd have been sold 2 years ago.

BREXIT BREXIT BREXIT

Totally agree though, I said the same in another post on Friday. He's the weak link in our defence and is only "taking part" because he's the token English player. Careless and clumsy, useless on the ball. People think a couple of worldie-blocks and the odd penalty box poacher's goal make him a good centre-back. He's bench quality at best.

(Watch him score a hat-trick and send Zlatan back to Sweden now I've said this).

He should be fined for busy picking Lingaard up in the build-up to the second goal and considering we were already struggling then, it's absolutely farcical to see that and that from the captain!

Must have been going for the blue peter badge or special participation award. Shite captain , mediocrity written all over him

Captain. Nothing makes my blood boil more.

If you wanna see the state of his defensive skills look at the last game where Rashford was running at him and Cahill started turning like a top. Exactly the same as when Lukaku scored on him. Today Rashford made a similar run at Luiz who wasn't fazed at all.

He's been living on borrowed time for a long while and the fact he's currently Captain is hilarious.

Lets just get another CB that's English to fill his void.

I knew this would happen. I know he is not everyone's favourite but people wait for him to have a poor game then pounce. The other 2 games against United this season he was top class. The game against City the other day was probably our MOTM along with Hazard but like I said then, you won't see much people giving him praise because he is the no.1 scapegoat. Opinions will always be divided but he has been a big part of our success this season. Majority of season he has been class. Not on level of Luiz but still very good.

Nobody is questioning any of that. People are discussing a much bigger picture.

I know. Keane seems like the only decent option around

Great lets go sign an overhyped and I'd suspect over priced English CB who is nowhere near the level of Kurt Zouma and will likely cost 2-3 times what he did. Zouma has the potential to grow into an extraordinary CB if he can build up the understanding and technical side of his game, eventually I see him becoming that central defender in the back 3 or the one on the right he just needs to become more competent with his positioning at times and with the ball at his feet (ironically I'm going to use a = rather dodgy - comparison to young Micah Richards, he was a monster physically and used his physical attributes (pace and strength) to bail him out if he made a positional error/mistake, Zouma needs to build the other side of his game, which I feel he will to become a complete central defender), he will learn that, hes just recovering from a huge injury too with a new coach and new system. Next season he will be better. A lot better than Michael Keane anyway.

HG!

I'm not an advocate of spending money on anyone, but we need to start buying young English players for the long run.

Zouma seems to have regressed since his injury and just looks so out of place. We really shouldn't need another CB if things work out with the youngsters we've got (Ake, Christiansen, Zouma, Miazga, etc). I just have my reservations with Conte giving them any run of games.

Just look at Ake

I knew this would happen. I know he is not everyone's favourite but people wait for him to have a poor game then pounce. The other 2 games against United this season he was top class. I think it's more about people voicing the obvious instead of using him as a scapegoat. That title lies with Costa ahead of anyone.

He has had good games here & there in the past, but he just looks all over the place when he comes up against anyone that plays direct. We need to be striving for a back three that are of a similar level going forward.

Christensen and Ake are homegrown, that's more than enough for me tbh. And we'll probably keep Cahill next season. So that's 3 HG CBS.

Ake's going to stay having been stuck on the bench since being recalled. I would have second thoughts on that.

Cahill is an Everton level player we need an upgrade in the summer

Harsh. He wouldn't start over either of Funes Mori or Jagielka.
