Seems like Cahill took the defeat pretty hard at the end..

Didn't he take a knock towards the end of the game after which he was hobbling as he tried to get up? That could be why he was on the floor rather than because he was upset - not sure though.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did. He is very passionate about every moment in the game. For instance, when Cech makes a good or important save, you can see Gary celebrating that we did not concede from it.

@, looks like I was right. :P

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2592833/Jose-Mourinho-vows-summer-surgery-cut-players-without-personality-warning-misfiring-strikers-fight-leave.html

After Saturday’s defeat at Crystal Palace, Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta slumped on to the turf, dejected. John Terry looked distraught after heading in the own goal which settled the game.

‘It feels like the end, that it is over,’ said Cahill. ‘It is massively disappointing and at the end of the game, it was a horrible feeling.’

Mourinho marched on to the pitch, making a beeline for Cahill and hauled him up, put an arm around him and told him to leave with his head held high.

‘I told him he was one of the guys who should not be on the floor,’ said Mourinho. ‘I told him he was one of the guys who should walk to the dressing room with pride, that he had another performance where he gave absolutely everything.

Just putting it out here, is anyone gonna question Cahill's positioning for that 2-3 late Palace chances when they got into the space vacated by Ivanovic but wasn't covered well enough by Cahill? Seems like his problems are still there..

The truth is Cahill is a very limited defender. We had Luiz, who is an error making machine and lacks discipline, while Cahill is the hardworking man, and has a no nonsensical playing style. So Cahill seems a huge improvement.

Yes, we have the best defense in the league, but not because we have 4 superb defenders, but because the team as a whole is more concerned about defending than attacking, thats why at the end of the day we create few chances to "kill the game" in most matches.

Mourinho is favoring mediocrity. Thats why he made Ivanovic his number 1 RB. Other players were turned into mediocre ones, like Ramires, who had 12 and 9 goals in two past seasons, and 7 and 8 assists, this season he has only 4 goals and 2 assists, despite playing game after game.

I doubt it. I am telling u now starting next season he will be on the bench simply because luiz will step up. ( don't u notice that all the Brazilian internationals are having an ok to poor season in Europe. Don't u find that suspicious? ... But after the World Cup it will be a different story.). Ps Cahill does not have a character resembling a captains he is a follower, we had wise, desailley , and terry. Cahill simply does not come close. If anything the VISE CAPTAIN of BRAZIL david luiz has the aura and the ability of our previous captains( if he stops goofing about) than Cahill.

Your discounting the quality that Gary Cahill has produced by hoping Luiz can step up to the plate. That is just wrong and way off the mark.

As it stands at this moment in time there is a big question mark over Luiz from Mourinho's point of view. To be a captain it takes more than just aura and ability mate, it's a whole package thing.

Luiz will be lucky if he's here next season, I'm telling you.

Love this. He cares so much and that is what i want at my club. Only behind Hazard as Chelsea player of the year IMO.
