Jase 43,479
I really don't get why Lampard should be given 1 more league match to see if he can turn things around. The doubts, the issues aren't going to just go away even if we win at Fulham. They are far bigger than the results right now. If Roman really wants to sack him, then he should just do so now. You can recruit well but if you don’t get results it ultimately won’t matter. If he was sacked tomorrow and this group went on to be successful in a year or a few years down the line, nobody will remember Lampard’s spell in a better light after spending 200m or whatever and having us sitting 8/9th. Behind Everton. Aston Villa. Leicester. Tottenham. Teams we all finished above last season without 200m of players like Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz who are all improvements on what we had last season. The last 18 months of his time here there is no clear style, no identity and ultimately no real progress. Only positives results wise was the 2 purple streaks spanning the 20 games in 2 seasons. Of course results are more important and that's what ultimately will cost Lampard his job. But you only have to look at the squad he inherited with a transfer ban, Hazard left, RLC and CHO crocked long term, Kante riddled with injuries, and compare that with the squad we have now. Lampard will leave us in a better position with regards to the strength of our squad than what he started with. Thiago Silva aside, there were no short term fixes like a Mourinho or Conte would demand, but instead he brought in or through a younger crop of players for the long term good of the club. He's not likely to be here to bear those fruits but I do think in 2-3 years people will have more appreciation over the job he's done rebuilding a pretty stale and ageing squad who had just lost its talisman. Jase 43,479
ZERO win against the 'Big 6' this season: L 0-2 Liverpool D 0-0 Man United D 0-0 Spurs L 1-3 Arsenal L 1-3 Man City Both goals came after being 3-0 down...

Unless Tuchel has already been told to prepare, it may just be a matter of timing. Sack him now and the replacement may not be ready. With the FA Cup match in between the club have a bit of time to sort things out.
Azul 1,615
Well, based on what we've seen during the past several years at Chelsea its unlikely you will see that. Only this week have we even seen press stating that his position is under threat. Regardless, I still think they are close to that point. Loss to Leicester will be the tipping point IMO, unless there is an upset against Fulham before that. The media didn't predict what happened to Conte, Ancelotti etc. I don't think Roman cares about what the press think. Looking at our results and the amount we've spent I'm extremely surprised that we haven't seen Lamps sacked. It's worrying if he doesn't get sacked after this result. Exactly and after Fulham its Leicester...Wolves..Burnley.. Spurs. So even if win against Fulham can't see many points gained after.

Don't think the media can ever truly predict when something's going to give, but there's usually a lot of noise coming out of the Chelsea camp prior to that, via the press. Its taken 4 defeats including one at Stamford Bridge for something to come out. I'm not disagreeing with you about the fact that its only a matter of time, but I doubt that it will be anytime this week.
NikkiCFC 8,319
What's sad is that he will be gone and he will not even try some very logical things like Ziyech as number 8 or Werner in 442 system.
Blue Armour 4,439
This sucks really., and honestly can't wrap my mind around this...its been hours since the match and its a been long streak of poor results, but its STILL difficult to accept that things have come to a boiling point and just move on. Its a heart versus head matter.. All the signs are pointing to an inevitable conclusion, and what is likely better for the club, but its a tragedy that its come to this stage. A club legend, OUR club legend ending up in this situation. A lot of rival fans mocked us when he was first appointed, saying that it would end in tears, and it looks like they are getting what they wanted. I feel like I need to give myself a break from all Chelsea related news for a few weeks. In the end, no matter what happens to Lampard, his legacy as a player here will remain untouched. kellzfresh and bigbluewillie

Jase 43,479
There's the story from The Athletic yesterday about Lampard being on the brink and then there's this from Matt Law... It's really amazing the kind of "support" a manager can get when he's English... 0007

Wonder if he will use the interim period to go back to the drawing board and try something new., at least in an attempt to save himself. He hasn't departed from his 4-3-3 formation and wing play tactics for even one match this December, let alone for a few minutes.

I don't know if it's the accumulation of years of being shit but there's really not much fun watching us play these days. It's bad enough that we look tactically naive, clueless and like clowns on bad days, but our playing style is not even enjoyable anymore. We have basically turned into an expensive version of Burnley! kellzfresh and bigbluewillie

Lampard can get the next few games to implement changes. Job on the line now. I am very curious who will be on the shortlist of replacements killer1257

Am sure it's not lost on them that despite being just 3 points behind the Top 4 now, we have played a game more than Spurs and 2 more than City. We could easily be looking at a Europa League finish if things don't change ASAP. 0007

I am very curious who will be on the shortlist of replacements The season still being alive doesn't mean things are going well under Lampard. It's not as if the recent concerns came about because of the bad run. They are the wider concerns and have been there since Lampard took over and the bad run just reinforced them. We can't be 18 months into Lampard's tenure and after spending more than 200 million+ last summer, be worse than last season with no improvement, no identity, no style of play etc. The season could be dead if things don't change ASAP and while it's great to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage, I don't get this idea of parading it like it's something to celebrate when it's only the Round of 16 (we're not Arsenal FFS!) and not even quarter finals, semi finals or final. We used to consistently reach the knockout stage 10-15 years ago but we now have someone like Matt Law parading a Round of 16 qualification like it's some sort of success? The standards have really fallen! Based on current form, we'll lose to Atletico and get KOed from the Round of 16 again (so much for my optimism when the draw was made, HA!). I don't know if Matt Law watches all of our games (he's a Villa fan after all) but fans who watch the team week in week out have a better sense of what's going on. It's like when pundits and journalists thought Willian was great here but he wasn't and it took them until he went to Arsenal to realize it. If we're being objective about it, he will have time till Fulham/Leicester to turn it around, but will still be walking a tight rope even if he does. I know this administration can be ruthless with managers, but Lampards standing within the club is a little more...unique.
