Deja vu

We again go into a match against Wolves on a bad run and needing a tonic and more so a statement from AVB with his lineup.

Last time (against Wolves at SB) he did so, introducing Romeu, playing Luiz and dropping Lampard and Bosingwa he is going to need to make a similar statement again and drop as many of the current underperforming "superstars" as possible.

So the team.

Petr Cech - picks itself, he needs competition.

Sam Hutchinson - Paulo is probally nakered now and we started going to pot as soon as Bossy came on, time for some blue blood on the right hand side.

David Luiz - Best player today by a country mile, he MAYBE could/should whatever have done better for the second goal but was the only player showing a real sense of urgency and commitment.

Gary Cahill - Terry was not great today at-all if we can get Cahill in tommorow i say play him at Molineaux and show JT that his place is far from safe.

Ashley Cole - Normally i'd say Betrand but giving 2 young fullback their full PL debut at the same time is a big ask.

Oriol Romeu - I would say Mikel if he wasn't injured as Oriol needs a rest, if only Conor Clifford wasn't out on loan.

Ramires - picks itself

Florent Malouda - He played well against Fulham and will be fresh after not playing today.Lamps and Meireles have been below par lately.

Dan Sturridge and Juan Mata - Although they were awful today who can fill in? Krasic or even better Hazard is needed to compete with them sharpish.

Fernando Torres - Drogba has been starting and living off that Valencia game for far too long, Torres looked lively when he came on time to give him a start.

IMHO this HAS to be the team we go to Molineux with.

thoughts?

Deja vu is that for the last 5 years with 4 different managers we have gone through a bad patch between the two transfer windows first part of the season, then pick it up in the new year and finish relatively strongly, call me cynical but that is the m.o. of players protecting their high salarys over collective glory.

Now dont get me wrong im not saying they are all at it, but the guys at the tail end of their careers are certainly protecting their pockets, the squad has needed freshing up for nearly half a decade now and we have kept the same core of players who have peaked and should have been phased out, where is lampard, terry and drogbas replacements in the current squad? ferguson would already have their replacements in place, the only player he has failed to replace is scholes, now obviously the blame for the lack of squad freshening falls at the feet of the board who either get the wrong manager in or dont provide the funds to perform a squad overhaul.

Cahill might well be the second time the club have brought a player in not just to play along side the old spine but eventually to take their place, unfortunately torres probably was drogs but it just hasnt worked out and modric was arguably going to be lampards.

Also we were on a bad run going into the Wolves away game too and we went n lost there. Something needs to change for sure with the tempo being it.

If we are tight defensively and up the tempo, we'll win the game. I think Torres needs to start the game as the main and only striker.

We've started the new year positively, which was the best possible course of action. We have a game against a Championship side that we should destroy, then games against Sunderland and Norwich, which, again, we should win. If we can string those four wins together, we'll be laughing.

Agreed. The Fulham result really helped as well. It feels great to start the year in a CL place, very good for team moral.
