Exactly.

Let us use a bit of logic here.

We had 18 million to spend on Andre, 32 million to spend on Willian but not enough money to buy a top class CM/DM?

We're in the Champions League and competing for every trophy, most - if not all - players would love to play for us, why do you think we didn't bring any player in that position given how scarce our talent pool is in there?

It might have a little something to do with the return of Mourinho and his ideology of giving Lampard that one year extension, and telling journalists during the summer that Lampard was gonna be a first 11 player in the upcoming season. The reports mentioned Lampard and Ramires along with other names, meaning the signing of a top class player in that position would be redundant as that would result in Lampard being benched.

Whether people like it or not, that's the truth.

Where does his ego fit into this then? Seems like it was Mourinho's decision to make use of Lampard, not give in to his ego, from what your saying anyway.

Well, ask Villas Boas, Benitez, Di Matteo...

Here is what Lampard said after our game against the Hammers:

"If I can keep contributing here... I don't want to be a passenger, sitting on the bench and not doing much, even in my older years. So, as I said, I will take it year by year."

Now, doesn't that quote explain why Mourinho, who I repeat told journalists in the summer he wanted Lampard in the team every week, did not sign a top player to play alongside Ramires?

How would that work with Lampard, who said it himself he's not here to be on the bench "not doing much", if we had a player who, unlike Frank, fit the position like a Mangala, Pogba, Witsel, etc?

How is that ego? I'm sure every football worth his grain wants to play as much as possible and contribute as much to the cause. Lampard wants to play, Mourinho wants to play him. I see no issue of ego here. I'm sure they could start with Lampard, it's not an impossibility.

Mangala is a centre half.

I meant Imbula, sorry.

It's everything to do with ego, see how be reacted to being benched by Villas Boas. My problem isn't with Lampard himself, all top players are somewhat selfish, look at Ibrah for example. My problem is he should be nowhere near the pivot, and the starting 11. Of course he's going to want to play every minute, that is not gonna change even at 45 let alone 36.

My problem is Mourinho making concessions that are hurting our performances so he can unfurl a red carpet for Lampard to play on every week, regardless of his inability to perform that pivot role and form. I go back to my original point, he pulled the plug on that top class signing for Lampard, and we're paying for it.

The pivot is a terrible term and an average tactic. The 4-3-3 with a disciplined holding midfielder would be better for everyone. It would accomodate Lampard's strenghts, Ramires' and even Oscar could play there. The only player heavily marginalised by the 4-3-3 is Juan Mata who loses his favoured position behind the striker.

Villas-Boas is a bit of a twit. He always came off to me as the type of person that easily annoys and offends other people. It doesn't surprise me if he ever gets on the bad side of players.

All this is irrelevant as we're not playing 4-3-3

Doesn't matter, he was our manager and Lampard treated him like a cheap Soho whore when things didn't go his way.

It's not irrelevent. The formation against West Ham was a 4-3-3.

It does matter. If they manager can't get the players behind him, he isn't worth the time.

The only reason Lampard wasn't behind him was because he was getting benched. We played 4-3-3 in one half of that West Ham game.

Prove that. He could have also been upset at the tactics being used? or perhaps he didn't like his man management skills?

Well, I didn't play...anyway I'm almost sure that the 4-3-3 was used the entire match...I can't quite remember though.

If we're somehow still this margin or closer away from the title in January, then it would be criminal not to sign a midfielder + a striker.

Getting a striker is not going to be easy though, and will probably cost us the title. But we should sign a midfielder, since Essien doesn't have much to contribute.

Both England and Chelsea to need to get rid of F. Lampard as a starter... yesterday. well overdue.

Lampard has been a poacher from midfield and excellent for PKs. BUT, in terms of moving the ball around the pitch quickly and driving past defenders, it's either been non-existent or been a long time since Frank has consistently done either.

If you don't create space and pull defenders out of position with movement and passing, --and-- you no longer have the beast called 'Drogba,' how do you create any quality chances?

On England, I would take Gerrard to Brazil but if Lampard goes, he's sitting on the bench. Gerrard keeps the ball moving quick, on the floor and is better all-around from deep positions. He's also better with FKs and almost as good on PKs. But, this is what any biased Chelsa fan would never admit: Gerrard is a complete midfielder whereas Lampard has rarely or never really shown himself to be an all-around CM. That's why Gerrard gets the nod in Brazil easily and can remain a top player at Liverpool. Chelsea need a couple of all-around center midfielders and BTW THEY NEED NOT BE ON THE LEVEL OF A. VIDAL!! although that would be nice, right?

Chelsea need two solid CMs very soon; not just one. Mikel is just not good enough and Frank should be OTW out while being used mostly as a sub. Or, just kiss the top four finish goodbye in 2014. Hopefully the future is bright and BLUE for young players like Loftus-Cheek and Jeremie Boga, but Chelsea need players now to drive the team foward, keep the ball moving quick and aid the defenders.

#Inter Milan director Branca met #CFC in London today where discussions were held regarding Andrea Ranocchia & Fredy Guarin (via @dimarzio)

@dimarzio

Meeting beetween @chelseafc and @inter for @fguarin13: italian directors were in London yesterday. #DembaBa in the possible deal?

I would take Guarin in January.

I read that Inter want Mikel too:

Chelsea and Inter have met today in London, according to Sky Italy. Chelsea have asked Guarin, Inter interested in Obi Mikel and Ba

Chelsea also asked Inter the terms to sign Ranocchia, according to Sky Italy, as backup in case of David Luiz leaving

I can confirm that there are concrete chances that David Luiz might leave for Barcelona

I think we shouldn't let go Ba, Luiz or Mikel and we don't need Guarin and Ranocchia.
