£80-85m for Maguire who would cost literally half that if wasn't English. More than DOUBLE what we paid for Rüdiger, a full fledged German international who regularly starts and plays for them. One of our best players last season.

He is very good, though. United now have probably the best back 4 in the league or at least right there with Liverpool.

If they make another signing or two I think they'll challenge for the title.

 Steady there now...

I mean, they do on paper anyways. Massive upgrades at CB and RB. Shaw seems good now and apparently what's-his-face from Sweden improved greatly under Solskjaer. And now DDG won't have to work miracles to win them points so he'll probably return to his best.

Maguire is over-hyped because he is English and there's not much quality in England's CB position. If he wasn't English, the big clubs would likely not bothered with him at all. Whether Maguire can be great and be consistent at the highest level remains to be seen. If it is really 80-85 million, then Maguire will cost United even more than Van Dijk to Liverpool and De Ligt to Juventus. For that kind of money, United would have been better off signing De Ligt, who will at least give them 10-12 years of service. Also, United are really daft in this transfer. Mourinho wanted Maguire last summer and he reportedly cost 60-70 million back then but Ed Woodward did not back him. They even thought that asking price was too much! Now, they're gonna pay 80 million+ for him.

Time will tell but Solskjaer going for English players and "forcing" the club to pay big money for them is similar to when Kenny Dalglish did the same with Liverpool about 8-9 years ago. United may be getting better quality players overall but that Liverpool situation didn't turn out too well for them.

Id agree in a way. I would say in terms of having specialists in each full back position with Wan Bissaka and Shaw who are both good players compared to having Young and Valencia, as well as having Lindelof and Maguire in the middle, their back 4 is probably a lot lot better than what it was under van Gaal or Mourinho.

Dont think Maguire is ever a 85m player though and still fancy United to concede goals at times to that back 4 gel but I think their fullbacks will really give them a lot going forward.

Like I have said a few times United and Arsenal will surprise a lot of people this season. Utd potentially getting Dybala in, who although he has fallen behind where he should be, still has plenty of ability and keeping Pogba gives them a huge huge chance of being up there for top 4 minimum. They dont have any glaring weaknesses in any positions I would say. Arsenal still short at the back but if they sign Tierney and a CB better than what they have as well as keeping Torreira they will be stronger too.

Marvelous Nakamba: Aston Villa sign Zimbabwe midfielder from Club Bruges

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49121478

Aston Villa have signed Zimbabwe international midfielder Marvelous Nakamba for an undisclosed fee - their 12th signing of the summer.

Nakamba, 25, is the second player to join from Belgian side Club Bruges this summer following £22m forward Wesley.

The deal takes Villa's summer spending past £120m as they prepare for a first season back in the Premier League.

"He's very mobile, very good in possession and will fit with our style of play," said manager Dean Smith.

Here's the late great Felix Dexter the way he says marvellous cracks me up and everytime that Villa's marvellous is mentioned I'll think of this.:D

Smalling, Jones, Rojo, and Bailey aren't starting caliber CB's for a top team but as depth that's pretty damn good. Left back is thin so they  will need the injury prone Shaw to stay fit, though.

Will be interesting to see what sort of XI they'll go with if they pull off the Dybala and Fernandes signings. Having a midfield 2 consisting of Pogba and Fernandes will be fantastic going forward but very suspect defensively. And replacing a classic #9 with Dybala who doesn't really have a set position seems super risky. Not at all convinced he'd be this superstar signing for them. Has Di Maria written all over him. A South American player who reluctantly joins United when he would've clearly preffered to stay at his previous club.

But this potential XI:

----------Martial---------Dybala-----------Rashford

-------------------Fernandes-----Pogba------------------

Shaw----------Maguire-----------Lindelof------------AWB

---------------------------DDG----------------------------

Looks pretty damn strong. Certainly MUCH better than what they've had in recent years.

Fuck this ban

Fuck this ban man, we are being left behind for real this time, we have 3 other teams fighting it out with us and they all imroved on paper.

FFS. I hope the board in 2020 starts splashing £150 million minimum, otherwise we are going to be far behind.

150 wont do it considering what we need and cant spend i 2 Windows, 150 is way too little. We have our own war chest plus all the players we have sold and will sell come next summer. We have to spend big to level up. Not to mention the massive dead wood we have in many positions. If by next summer we are still rocking with Luiz Zappa Drinky Baka Willy etc then we indeed have become the new Ars.

LOL and then they go ahead anyway and pay 85-90M for this Maguire......shit show man. If we ever gave such sums for such a player I would go bunkers. Give me Deligt and Kouli anyday. Shit as someone said we got Rudi for under half that. Football has become way way fucked up. These prices will at some point explode and a remedy will come forth. No Club can and will be allowed to sustain this market longterm.....its out of hand now. Nevermind the wages some Club offer, 350k for Ozil, 500k for Sanchez, 600k for Bale and on and on it goes.

Yes, we all would like to sign new players but christ, all this panicking before the season has even started is just so...typical. EVERY. FUCKING. SINGLE. SEASON.

CAM's the one position i'm not too fussed about, i feel Ruben and Mount deserve the opportunity to make the spot their own in the coming years. The only player i'm really bothered about and see as a missed chance is Pepe, the rest of the big transfers would have either never choose us over the clubs they went to (De Jong, Rodri, Greiamann, Jovic) or have blocked our talent long term (Dybala, AWB, De Ligt).
