Kieran. 6,317
Dont tell me what to spout and what not to. Did you have a suicide in your family? Did you lose your best friend who has never been the same cus his dad took his life when we were 10?Ive been through depression too...may not be a severe one. But people close to me have been through severe depression. They have been on pills, have visited therapists. And they have fought their way out of it.I've had more than one suicide in my family. I understand what you're saying, but you'll never know what was going through Gary's head. He was so messed up he ENDED HIS OWN LIFE. You can't feel worse than that. ulsterchelsea 3,221
Tell me about it. I have had people around me who have been through severe depression, and have fought their way out of it. Like in the other thread, I said, these are fighters as opposed to the weak people who just give in and choose the easy way out.How do you know it is not as simple as waking up and thinking "let me end my life today"? Most of the time it is moment of madness. If only at that moment had they decided to fight on for a day more......I know few families who have had a member committing a suicide.....their moms or wives have never been the same...And therefore I have no sympathy to the ones who take their own lives cus they dont care what they are putting their families through.. I used to feel the same as you until a member of my extended family did it. You cannot possibly try to rationale with the workings of the depressed mind. It's all to easy to say its the weak way out but when you see a strong confident person who is 100% family attempt to take there life because they are in the darkest place they have ever been you soon realise how little choice you have in the matter. Don't be under the illusion that you have rational choice

I maintain sympathy for them.. I respect their decision. It is not 'easy' as you say. It's hard to explain this, because I can see how you feel about this. I just hope you don't have to be in a position where you do start to understand, from your own experiences.

Insensitive. in fairness I don't think hes insensitive its just an easy assumption to cone to. As I say if not for circumstance/1st hand experience I'd still be thinking the same. I pray he never has to see the hurt it causes to families when it happens because it changes your perspective for life.
francozola 2,040
Shouldn't judge other people because we never know what they're really going through. Each person has different strengths and weaknesses some can cope better and some can't. No reason to call them out because we have not been in their shoes and do not have any right to do so. HRiver 1,512
RIP. It's terrible to hear such sad news, he was young and it's a shame he had to die in such a way.I personally am rather depressed and I have not even once thought about suicide whatsoever, although I don't care even if I die. But I wonder how depressed and sad he must have been to do it. Probably it reached the highest point and he could not take it anymore. But my thoughts go out to his family and friends who right now are probably feeling even worse than he was.

Steve 10,227
I am still in shock and sadness after hearing about this news last night. I do not know what to say... I have been in that situation myself and decided to fight on but that doesn't take away the fact that i thought about it... Besides my close friends and family no one knew of my depression because i would hide it and i guess that is what Gary was doing. I feel for his family and friends but lets hope he is in a better place now.Rest in peace Gary!

Sheva. 5,373
AVB: 'Today was a sad day for football. One of the Premier League's recent stars has passed away, and for sure, one of the brightest young football managers. In a short spell in Gary Speed's career as a manager he has stood out and showed the same human values that had frequently been highlighted throughout his professional career as a footballer. I never had the opportunity to meet him personally, but I was fortunate enough to see that brilliant left foot in action many times.'In my name and the club's, I would like to pass my sincere condolences to his family and friends, Gary will be truly missed.' Fulham Broadway 17,319
.Awful -but cant help something else will come out later. Even in the depths of depression you think he'd consider the implications of his wife or child finding there father/husbands corpse hanging there, and the indelible scars left. I also believe that something will come out, the inquest starts tomorrow....Personally, i think he was hit with some sort of bombshell news and made up his mind. I don't buy into the depression thing in this case. I have seen many people with severe depression and suffer breakdowns. The first thing you notice is thier lack of health and dramatic weight loss(they usually look very worried). Speed looked a picture of health and i can't believe a suicidal man could have put on that display on football focus...I also don't think he was a coward, no matter what your mindest, it takes a brave person to hang themselves from a low height(he was found in the garage). He must have suffered before he died, can't see that drop killing him instantly....a coward would have OD on pills and booze...
