What formation would you play?

What formation would you play if you were Villas Boas, and list the players. I'd like to see Chelsea try something different like this

Bosingwa-----------Ivanovic------------Terry---------------Cole

-----------------Essien------------------------Lampard

------------------------------Piazon

----Sturridge-------------------------------------------Mata

------------------------------Torres

Ideally, I'd love Modric instead of Piazon. I hope we get him in January. But I'd love Chelsea to play that formation. Enough cover for the defense with 2 slightly deeper players. With one allowed to move forward, which would be Lampard. He played a slightly deeper role in pre-season and did well. A creative player (in front of Lampard & Essien) in the middle who can play through-balls, and is good at running with the ball. Then the 2 wingers to provide width. That should (on paper, at least) provide Torres with chances.

Swap Ivan for Luiz as AVB likes to play a high line , and Luiz has more pace and can play the ball too. Piazon will be too young to jump straight in so id move Mata there . He can change pace and influence the game more from there and play Malouda on the left instead.

Piazon? You've got to be joking. It will be at least 18mths - 2 years until Piazon will be ready to feature consistently for us, if at all. Frankly, I am not all that impressed by him at the moment. We will have to see how he gets on with reserve team football or at another club on loan which is what will probably happen.

Agreed it will be ages before we see Piazon, but I hold a lot of hope for him. Hopefully he follows the route of McEachran and not Stoch or di Santo...

Well, my point was more about the formation than the player. I chose Piazon because he's that Modric-type of creative player. We don't have others (Meireles isn't that type of player). Or I could have put Mata there, and used Malouda in Mata's position.

I'd stick to 4-3-3. Try Mata and Sturridge on the wings. When the opportunity arises I'd get a playmaker, and if Sturridge doesn't shine (which I doubt) a right winger. Offensive full backs, an the midfield of Mikel/Romeu Ramires/Josh Meireles/Lampard.

I wouldn't play Lamps and Meireles in the same lineup because they both like going forward.

The hardest thing about answering these threads is about who will play in the positions. If we go 4-3-3/4-5-1 then i wanna see Sturridge on the left wing and Mata on the right with Torres up front. If we go 4-4-2 i wanna see Sturridge on the left of midfield and Mata on the right with Torres and Drogba up front.

I've never seen Luiz at right back but i think he could do a job there, i'm not a big fan of Bosingwa even tho he's started the season well and i think Ivanovic's best position is in the center. Alex and Terry are too slow to be together in the middle imo. I would like to see Luiz in midfield but with the numbers we now have in there, that's most likely a no go. Luiz has pace, why not try him on the right?

You are wrong. Piazon plays just behind the striker(s), while Modric is more of a deep lying playmaker. They ain't of the same type.
