Tomo 21,751
Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United - Great start but United had us on the ropes for much of the game.Birmingham 0-1 Chelsea - Rubbish performance, lacked much fluidity but we still came out winners.Crystal Palace 0-2 Chelsea - Drogba and Tiago scored in a not great display but routine win.Chelsea 2-1 Southampton - Southampton scored early on and we stuttered our way to a 2-1 win, which performance recently is that similar too?Aston Villa 0-0 Chelsea - Boring game, neither team looked like scoring and neither did.Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham - Chelsea had most of the play but lacked the penetration.Middlesbrough 0-1 Chelsea - Another lacklustre display had us staring at the barrel of a 3rd straight league 0-0 until Drogba bailed us out with 5 minutes left.Chelsea 1-0 Liverpool - Moment of magic by Joe Cole won us a pretty uninspiring match.Man.City 1-0 Chelsea - Anelka's penalty condems Jose Mourinho to his first Chelsea defeat as manager.Only 8 goals in 9 games (including only TWO GOALS in the most recent 5), we looked short of ideas and the defeat to Man.City has us trailing current unbeaten champions and unbeaten leaders Arsenal by 5 points and 15 goals. It looked to soon for Jose and Chelsea and it was looking increasingly likely that Wenger's Goonies would walk the league again possibly unbeaten.Morale of the story, we cannot really judge a season after 2/3 months let alone 2/3 games. Madmax 9,219
Agree with the sentiment but if our current play doesn't improve we're in deep shit. One point though - this squad has regressed since 05. And Utd even without star players (bar Rooney) are a very cohesive unit. City has their stars and tantrums but Mancini is holding it together at the moment. LDN Blue 7,903
Good post.Just look at United every season! They start slow and after Jan they kick into a league winning side.
BlueLion. 21,491
The difference is Lampard was six years younger and absolutely dominating games, and we had great goalscoring threat in Duff, Gudjohnsen, and Drogba - whilst our defence was absolutely phenomenal with Ferreira, Bridge, Gallas and Terry just dominating strike forces. We perhaps have greater firepower now, but we're shockingly woeful at the back; and we had more options for the midfield then as well, with the likes of Tiago, Parker and Smertin who could come in to the midfield three. Laylabelle 9,539
Ahhh Gallas...why did he have to turn into a twat!!!!We're playing like shite and still getting results which matters end of the day but kinda hmmm about how long it'll last if end up being a case of playing better or playing like shite and getting shite results..but yeh agree early days anything can happen hopfully the dodgyness will ease off a bit and things start clicking into place
Kojo 4,676
I just noticed this thread, and Tomo you've made some good threads lately, and you know how to explain things and prove things. But most of all you seem to make the season realistic and bright, thank you.
Naked Mole Rat 437
Which is why Arsenal should stick with Wenger. On a more serious note, though, there's no need to make a fuss about what's happening with Chelsea now. So far we've been disappointing, but we've got 7 out of possible 9 points and had a pretty good summer transfer window, so there's not much to complain about. And I can't help but feel that our frustrating performance against Stoke and West Brom spurred the board to act quickly to get Mata, so maybe it was for the better. But I hope we get things sorted out quickly before we visit Old Trafford because they're looking incredibly sharp. Kieran. 6,317
All I'm asking for is one creative midfielder...begging for one really...and we'll be that much better. We'll have a good run at the title. And AVB is a great manager who's still trying to get a feel for things at Chelsea.Rome wasn't built in a day...but Rome didn't have Roman. KonohasOrangeFlash 2,607
We don't have a good enough squad, Simple. Defense needs strengthening, Midfield needs Strengthening (CAM), and lately we've been playing without a CF, we have a lot of issues and we need better players, this has never been AVB's fault, well not completely but he should have begun the clearout in the Summer.
