Newcastle United Youth 4 Chelsea FC Youth 3

Chelsea's youths were beaten in their first competitive outing at the weekend, coming out on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller at Newcastle.

Adi Viveash's side had led at half-time, but eventually conceded a last-minute winner meaning the hosts took the points.

Newcastle had gone in front early through a Brandon Miele free-kick, but Chelsea responded well and scored twice in five minutes before the break. First Adam Nditi latched on to a John Swift through ball and lifted the ball over the home goalkeeper, before a Tom Howard cross was turned into his own net by Newcastle's Alex Nicholson.

Into the second period JJ Hooper levelled the scores from close range before putting his side in front shortly after the hour, turning home from close range, only for Reuben Loftus-Cheek to head home a second equaliser for Chelsea with 15 minutes to go.

It looked like it would end all-square with both sides spurning opportunities to win it, only for Hooper to claim a hat-trick after beating a defender and slotting home.

Chelsea are next in action at home to Crewe at Cobham on Saturday.

Chelsea (4-3-3): Mitchell Beeney; Ali Gordon, Reuben Loftus-Cheek, Adam Nditi; Lewis Baker, John Swift, Archange Nkumu (Sammy Bangura 85); Tom Howard (Seremba 75), Philipp Prosenik (Walter Figueira 65), Amin Affane.

Is Prosenik on his final sholarship year?

Seems he has been around for quite awhile - shocking he is still a 'youth' player in someways. Nice to see that the lads know how to score, maybe a little tightening in the back?

Has Newcastle got a good squad compared to the likes of Arsenal?

You are allowed 2(i think) overage players in an U18's team, prosenik will be playing as an overage player. Mainly because reserves chances will be limited. Mitrovic ahead of him and even he didn't start last Monday for the reserves. Newcastle have a decent academy for sure...
