The thing is, we can keep saying this is made-up media b/s and whatnot but to what extent does that go to before you come to the conclusion 'there's no smoke without fire'?

Mourinho can manipulate anyone in the way he wants. Media, players, fans. He's extremely good at it, but he's also been always known to be blunt and straight forward about some issues. The fact is, yes he's made statements about Mata being important to the team.. But he hasn't really shown it, has he? Yea, we can keep using this whole defense about how tired Mata is but I mean he was an unused sub against Bayern Munich in the Supercup Final & Manchester United.

If it was to be believed that he's only being left out because of this supposed fatigue then you get why he missed the Villa and Hull games and most of pre-season. But if he's missing out on the big games NOW, when Mourinho is supposedly molding his team that is a big signal about what's to come.

Mata is a professional, not one controversial bone in his body.

When Yaya Toure slapped him and kicked him he just got up and got on with it, he ignored Toure, he didn't go to the papers he didn't say anything about him that was that.

Yeah but he's still a football player with an ambition to play for Spain but also be playing regularly for a club with title ambitions, not just being a bit-part player for that kind of club.

That's a fair point and think most of us are aware of that too but again, some of us have mentioned that let's just see how Mata is used and fares under Mourinho after this international break with many games coming up. We will then obviously find out who is right all along - Mourinho or the media.

Of course, and hopefully it will be Mourinho. Though we must be wary, the January transfer window will approach us quicker than we think and if Mata's still in this predicament by then it will be a very grueling January.

Agree and not just a grueling January though, it will be a horrific November and December to endure as I'm sure the stories/rumours will all come flying out by then.

Getting Mata in during the super cup would be dumb after the red card and the United game just wasnt Matas type of game.

For the Supercup match, it's not that he was unused (though that's still an issue), it's the fact the player we claim is the vital player for us, isn't playing a cup final. If he's as important as we think, he should be starting such games.

If the United match, the match vs the Champions & fellow title contenders, isn't his type of game.. What is?

I don't understand what you mean by that?

The way how you put but are you saying that it's a bad thing? I like how he has that ambition, most footballers aren't even arsed about there national team, however he wants to play in every game even the U21 tournament he wanted to play all games and Olympics. .

Because if he's not a regular for us, then he's not going to be looked at for all these competitions. I'm saying that in order for him to get chosen for these international games, he'll want to be playing regularly for a big club. At the moment he's not, he won't settle for being bit-part with us.

Here is Mata's new blog. As usual very nice but he mentions he wants to come to India for a visit. That made me very happy. I hope he comes and i get to meet him somehow!

I think the main reason why Mata was an unused sub was because Mourinho saw the extra-time coming and he chose to space out his subs a bit more and then Hazard scored for us and with our team needing to literally defend the result bring Mata would be a suicide mission with his poor defending skills. Add that to the fact that we lost Rami during the 90 minutes and chances for him to come are even more unlikely. Also we were able to create chances (we could have scored a goal or two between Oscar's sitter and a couple of saves by Neuer). We only really parked the bus in the second half of the extra time because we had to and Bayern was pressuring us a lot.

That said, I don't disagree about Mourinho not being clear about Mata - he hasn't. While he was praising other players and being very emphatic on Luiz not leaving the club, he was mild and many times simply refused to address Mata. He'd say a 4-5 words sentence to answer questions about Mata and change the topic or wait for the next question. Who knows Mourinho's antics caught it easily. It's the half-truths he says all the time (and imo also his great likeness to Oscar and his work rate) that make me unsure of how he'll use Mata.

I've learned reticent Mourinho about any subject is never a good sign and gosh, was he reticent about Mata at many points?
