incometax 116
the amount you guys are overrating Mata shows how bad the quality in our squad is. He rarley beats his man 1 on 1; he is a horrific in defense; he dips off so much in games due to his fitness; his 1 -2 plays have been non-exsistent second half of the season; his finishing on his right foot is shocking; he is not a winger, hes a bad winger when played there actualy. His crosses are inconsistent, his whole play is; he just looks so out of ideas in the final third. Is a no show in big games(kinda the point of a top team is to be big in big games).Granted though to get the best out of mata he has to be played in the middle of a 4-2-3-1, but we dont have wingers to support him(fair enough). Have proper wingers of quality will free up space for mata and give him quality to work with(another fair point). But still he should be performing MUCH better currently. But please dont embarrass yourself when you call mata someone comparable to the rooneys, ozils, sneidjers, xavis, iniesta's of the world. Hes not on that level.
capriccioso 2,545
He shouldn't play anymore, this season it's going to damage his career. Look at him. You can see the exhaustion in his eyes. We can't keep playing him, the poor kid is on the verge of collapse, and he has a packed summer schedule ahead of him. I'm not sure if there's a correlation between fatigue and the body's ability to withstand shocks, but if so he could pick up a horror injury soon. But on the other hand we absolutely must play him to salvage our season. It would be best for him and the club if we forget about the league and save him up for the Champions League.

Manuf 1,448
It's been a long time since I've seen player making such an impact in his first season. Without him we would be somewhere in the middle of the table and out of all competitions. When you say that he runs out of ideas have you noticed that he has to change his game every time because once he has Torres who would rather receive a through ball and on the other hand he has Drogba who is just standing against opponent waiting for the ball. He's the one that Mata in our squad. rantdeville 195
So cynical, some of our fans are to genuinely under appreciate what Mata has done for our club this season. He isn't the best player in the world (in fact, i dont even recall anyone saying he was) but he is the sole spark on our floundering team. The fact alone that he has achieved what he has on our uninspiring team should warrant him cult status among the faithfuls. Point being, he has worked damn hard and done damn well in the circumstances and in no way can his efforts go unnoticed, especially to think that he's come all this way, and we haven't even been able to exploit his best position yet. So in conclusion, fuck off if you're trying to undermine the boys role on this team. You're not the only one cringing during games at this forgettable season. In all fairness, though, the quality of our players can be very low at times. BlueLion.
Madmax 9,219
LOL @ the previous few pages here - Mata is the type of guy you build teams around. He's light years ahead of everyone else in the squad when it comes to flair, close control and imagination. He should form the nucleus of Chelsea's future squad. Get players who complement his style of play and watch him do a Silva. As long as rubbish like Meireles, Lampard, Essien and Torres play alongside him, even his best efforts won't lead to much. francozola, Swedish House Mafia and manpe
Miguelito 459
He has created the most chances in the premier league...yea he's not very good. He's not very important
LDN Blue 7,903
He needs help next season, other players technically on his wavelength. We need a player with the technical ability to open up teams from a deeper position meaning teams cannot sit back and just close down Mata to nulify us. We also need pace and quality out wide to stretch teams and open up the space for him in the middle.Indeed. Surround him with more creative players and Mata will begin to find a whole new level in his game, unseen to us so far!

Kostas 1,468
Not an original point by any means but there's just no way we'll be able to play football with him on the wing. In the match against City our left side was non-existent and Cole was basically alone versus 2 City players for the whole match. The effect that Mata's license to roam has on our on-field structure is beginning to remind me of Anelka's time at DM in 10/11 when we were the most one-sided team in the league. Azpinator 2,325
But please dont embarrass yourself when you call mata someone comparable to the rooneys, ozils, sneidjers, xavis, iniesta's of the world. Hes not on that level. Those players are all older than Juan (except Ozil who is at the same age but he's playing in fucking La Liga), he is most likely to become like them in a couple of years. ¬_¬
Manuf 1,448
The resolution for this problem is very simple - play Mikel. When out full-backs are up he fills the hole between two central defenders and you can cover the back with 3 players very well.
Justin_3d 1,140
Mata has been woeful. He def needs rest. But who do we get to replace him?Dam you Chelsea for not buying more creative players like Mata!
