Reserve team goalkeeper Sam Walker will spend the coming season on loan at Northampton Town.

It is a second loan spell for the 19-year-old, 6ft 6in goalkeeper who was between the posts throughout Chelsea's victorious 2010 FA Youth Cup-winning campaign.

In March he went to League Two Barnet and helped The Bees preserve their Football League status with a last-day 1-0 win against Port Vale and was on the losing side just once in seven appearances, although he was sent off once for two yellow cards midway through his stay.

Walker joined Chelsea three seasons ago from Millwall when still a schoolboy, and after featuring increasingly in the youth team despite plenty of competition, made his debut for the reserves in the 2009/10 season and last season made six appearances at that level.

Northampton, managed by former Bristol City and Yeovil boss Gary Johnson, will compete in League Two this campaign.

Sky Sports understands Chelsea goalkeeper Sam Walker is poised to join League One Yeovil on loan.

New Glovers boss Gary Johnson is keen to bolster his goalkeeping options and has lined up a deal for the highly-rated Walker.

Walker move to Stamford Bridge on schoolboy terms from Millwall three years ago and, standing at 6ft 6in tall, will provide a commanding presence at the back.

The keeper has had spells on loan at Barnet and Northampton during the last 12 months and Chelsea are ready to loan him out again so that he can continue his development.

Walker will become Johnson's third acquisition since his return to Huish Park, following the arrival of Joe Edwards and Dean Parrett last week.

The 20-year-old will go straight into the squad for this weekend's trip to Bury.

Goalkeeper Sam Walker has signed for League Two side Bristol Rovers on loan until January 2.

The 20-year-old is eligible to play in tonight's Capital One Cup clash against Ipswich Town.

Walker joined Chelsea as a schoolboy from Milwall in 2007 and was a key member of our 2010 FA Youth Cup-winning side.

In March 2011 he joined Barnet on loan, making his professional debut against Chesterfield and helping the Bees stay in the Football League.

That summer he switched to Northampton, before switching to Yeovil Town in January, making 20 appearances before the end of last season.
