Shirt numbers

Just how important are them? .. It is a fairly recent innovation for players to have squad numbers. The move was really motivated in order to

increase revenue by selling replica shirts, Prior to this players were numbered on match days . Keepers shirts weren't numbered and the most

common colour was green . The rest of the team were numbered 2 -10 with 5 the centre half and 9 the centre forward.

.Now we have the idea that a shirt number can be retired if a particular player who wore it was considered a legend retires. I am happy that

appears to be the case with Zolas number. I can see problems however if this was extended to lower numbers particularly 1 to 11.

Of the current numbers I could accept JTs number retiring with him ,,,but not Franks.

If you were to be able to choose your number...what would it be...???

For Maths students ,,,why would 6 or 14 be an excellent choice or even 64???
