Thibaut Courtois

I don't understand the AWOL thing.  It's been clear, he wants to go to Madrid, we've agreed with Madrid.  But, it was agreed that he wouldn't go until we got a replacement.

So, possible fixes:

1.  Madrid pay more (if they want him so badly), the enable this to happen with greater ease.  They haven't.  Okay.  Don't want him that badly then, can get him next year for free.  Okay, that's their choice.

2.  Courtois can lower his wage demands in order for Madrid to pay us a higher transfer free, for this to happen.  He hasn't.  Okay, don't want to go that badly then, would suffer being here for a year instead, and get the big contract next season.  Okay, that's his choice.

So, his solution?

Go AWOL, don't get paid at all this season.  Personally, I don't really see how this hurts the club.  We're in the same position we were in yesterday, but not paying this guy's wages anymore.

We ditched a club legend for Courtois, we made changes to the goalkeeping coach for him and this is how he is repaying us - by behaving like a c**t?

Thats exactly why you can't let managers made all the decisions. Ditching Cech for Courtois was a decision made by Sir Jose Mourinho, not to mention the vast majority of the fans backed that decisions back in the day, mostly because people agreed that Courtois was a better GK and because of course Mourinho was Chelsea, and everything decision he made was supported.

No mate we have gone one batters than that, it looks like we are after a Championship keeper in Jack Butland.

I saw a week ago Stoke said £30m and he is whoever pays that's new keeper.

He is SHIT at ball distribution.

FFS I  dont see why the board doesn't just pay that £30m or so to PSG and grab Alphonse Areola. Hell, more if we have to. Better a French nipple than a British butt. That motto has served me well on some dates back in the day before I married my wife.

"Ditching" Čech was right call, risk worth taking. Courtois is a lot better GK than Petr now. Čech is old and in massive decline. But this fuck Courtois should have appreciated that more.

EDIT: Appreciate that among all other things. I mean, 4 good trophies speaks for themselves, we gave him everything.

I agree, Jose’s decision was widely supported, including by me even though I was well aware of the potential problem about loyalty and posted about it several times. Decisions have to be made, and someone has to make them. You weigh the pros and cons then make a choice.

If the decision were mine to make, and I had to do it again, I’d make the same choice. Choosing Thibaut was clearly the right option at the time. It’s no good second guessing it years later.

As for all the Thibaut hatred, I must tell you frankly that Chelsea fans really piss me off most of the time. Like watching the Huddersfield match at the end of last season in near silence. The only times people around me made any noise during a must win game was to give the team stuck. If we’re not going to try; if we’re not going to do everything we can to help, then who are we to moan at the players? Someone will chirp up and tell me fans have a right to complain. Well I am complaining about the petulant toddler tantrums some people call support.

It looks like Thibaut is a goner. I’m sorry his time at Stamford Bridge hasn’t gone better. Sorry for him, and sorry for us. It really is not all his fault. We sent him at an impressionable age to a great club in a beautiful city. A club with a better team and more passionate fans. Then we brought him back to a chaotic club lurching from crisis to crisis and showing no lasting signs of progress. Though I may be a lone voice I say good luck to you Thibaut. If you ever return to Stamford Bridge you’ll recognise me. I’ll be the one applauding you.

It's not that he wants to leave, its the manner this has been done.

Be a man, and be straight with everyone.

It's what has annoyed me with Hazard over the years and particularly this summer, the mixed signals to the media to just make sure that all bases are covered and you'll be welcomed back to Chelsea if nothing materialises. People cannot have it both ways. Football is far too emotional and tribal for players to have their cake and eat it. And those mixed signals will automatically give hope to fans that they will stay and only makes it even worse if they leave.

The difference between Hazard and Courtois is that Hazard has seemingly backed up his talk this summer by coming back to the club and looks prepared to get his head down and perform for us like we need him to.

Courtois on the other hand has shown himself up with comments about having no problem playing for Chelsea this season. It's a cowardly showing and is the reason why he will leave under a cloud and not likely receive a warm welcome back to the club like many of our old players have over the years.
