The Big Drog 1,110
Ye Id like Cheik Tiote, young, very energetic, good on the ball, again not sure Id rather him start over Ramires but he would be a good option to have.
Melanicus 5,208
I'm sure he would be perfect replacement for Essien. He is hard-working player who works for the team, very rare player. He is also proved in EPL and I really hope we will sing him!
LDN Blue 7,903
I like him.But he's very ill disciplined. Picked up the most number of yellow cards last season I believe

Picked up the most number of yellow cards last season I believe Yes, that's also true, but think how many clean tackles did Mikel make? He isn't so undisciplined that AVB couldn't hold him, same with David Luiz...
LDN Blue 7,903
Yeah true. But I don't know.. He's a great player, but I don't think we need him as such. I'd like to hear more opinions though from others about if he should be played over Mikel or with him ect.

We have just Mikel as CDM, even Essien isn't CDM. So we need this player not just as an Essien replacement, but also as a player who could add new dimension to our play. One CDM for a club at top level isn't too much, is it?

I'm really happy, his value at TransferMarkt (http://www.transferm...eler_33478.html) is 5.000.000 €, I would rate him at 10.000.000 €, and Chelsea has offered 15.000.000 €. I think Newcastle will accept this offer, or ask for an offer included with any of our player. I think we will get him until Portsmouth game. lionsden 4,689
The Persistent search for Essien's replacement is, quite frankly, disrespectful to Ramires. Also the temporary replacement idea makes no sense because it will defy all laws of physics, if Essien, a 30 year old player, returns to his very best after suffering 3 serious knee injuries and it would be delusion of epic proportions for any fan or AVB to have such expectations. lionsden 4,689
I was clearly referring to the essien replacement fiasco being blown out of proportion by the media and some fans.why would the absence of a player who appears to have past his prime significantly affect the team? hence the relentless and desperate search for a replacement.especially when you already have an identical and worthy alternative in Ramires. seems very illogical to me

Since Ramires is box-to-box. However the DM issue is one that needs addressing if Mikel were to get injured or for some reason, Boas didn't see him as a good player. Preferrably the young one should/could be a DMC, seeing as only Luiz and Mikel can play there if Essien is out. Like i said, i would rather have Ramires as an attacking midfeilder then a defensive one, his runs can be deadly (Man City goal). Rodwell would be the perfect candidate, has PL experience, is young and also been touted as English future star.

Essien and ramires are both box to box midfielders and have always been deployed as such. the only exception was during Mikel's absence to injury. I don't get how the defensive midfield argument fits into the discourse.
