Chelsea Youth 3 Leicester Youth 1

Recommended Posts

An important game for the Chelsea youths tonight as they make a bid to make the quarter finals of the FA Youth Cup. This time the opponents are a tough Leicester side who have done very well to progress to this stage and have impressed a lot of people. Chelsea really looking to make an impact in the competition this year as we have not made the later stages of the competition for many years. Leicester were actually playing with a player who has made 4 Championship appearances this season, which could make a lot of difference.

At the start of the game it never looked like it would Chelsea who would be progressing to the next round. Leicester looked very dangerous and the Chelsea defence looked very shakey and Leicester created some decent chances to score early on. As the game wore on Chelsea became more confident and started to take control in midfield with Sergio Tejera playing the holding role starting to influence the play. Chelsea had the ball in the back of the net first when good work by the Chelsea team say Kakuta flick a wonderful ball over the defence into the path of Mellis who was onside and flicked the ball skillfully past the keeper however the linesman wrongfully flagged for offside. Leicester's team looked a lot more physically developed than the Chelsea boys which was making physical challenges hard for them.

The Chelsea team didn't have to wait much longer to break the deadlock though when the exceptionally talented Kakuta running the defence ragged ran past a few defenders and layed it off to Morten Nielson who only had to flick it into the net and he bagged the first goal of the game. After that it was all Chelsea with Tejera, Stoch and Kakuta really running things and Kakuta in particulat was catching the eye and tearing the defence apart. He got his reward near the end of the first half when a mistake by the Leicester defence saw the ball fall to Kakuta 8 yards out and he duly thumped the ball past the keeper to get himself a very well earned goal. Chelsea ended the first half on a massive high and look to have done enough to win the tie.

The second half started iff much the same way with Chelsea in Control and looking threatening. However on 52 minutes a lapse in concentration by the Chlesea defence say the ball fall to the Leicester striker how hit a hard shot straight past Taylor and it was game on with over half an hour of time to play. Chelsea were still very dangerous on the break with Kakuta, Stoch, Mellis and Nielson having a lot of joy and creating chances. With 60 minutes gone Miroslav Stoch started to have some fun by running through the defence countless times but some poor choices meant that we couldn't finish some great chances off.

Kakuta was being double and triple marked after his first half skills which meant his influence was cut out slightly but that gave some space for Stoch and Mellis to be the creative ones. Another good run by Nielson saw Chelsea 3 on 2 but the shot by Nielson was wild and went too far wide. This was also a chance for Sawyer to come on for Mellis who took a knock in the first half. Stoch was in the mood for a goal though and again twisting his defender inside out worked some space for himself and hit a vicious shot at the keeper which he didn't know too much about and was a bit lucky to keep it out.

An injury to Gorden meant a short spell at left back for Tejera before Taiwo came on and moved to right back with Nana going to centre back and Van Aanholt to left back. The game somewhat slowed down with 15 minutes to go with neither team creating many chances. With not much time left to go Chelsea made their last change with Nielson comming off for Adam Phillip. A good run by phillip saw him run through on goal and unfortunately got himself a bit tangled and nothing came of it. 5 minutes of added time was shown which meant a frantic end to the game. A bit of panic at the back after a Chelsea break saw Leicester hit the bar, but straight after that scare Miroslav stoch ran from his own half and straight through the middle of the pitch, through a group of defenders and toe poked it past the keeper to make it 3 - 1, a deserved goal for stoch.

A well deserved win for the blues in the end, a bit of scrappy defending at times by Chelsea but attacking they were sensational and just couldn't be handled. All the best chances went for the blues and Leicester didn't create too many clear cut chances and Chelsea should have had a lot more goals. Kakuta and Stoch were fantastic but Tejera in the holding role was different class for someone who never plays there, ran the game from there!!!!

Player Ratings:

Rhys Taylor: Didn't have too many actual saves to make but was solid and aware throughout. 7

Nana Ofori: Captained the side from right back and was strong and fast on the break and at defence, did everything right and worked very hard. 7

Patrick Van Aanholt: Part of a somewhat shakey defence at times but he played well and mostly looked solid, had a decent partnership with Bruma. 6

Jeffrey Bruma: Pretty much the same as Van Aanholt was fairly comfortable and did well overall/. 6

Ben Gordon: First time i had seen him in action and he looks a very tidy player who is very good at defending and attacking down the left hand side. 7

Sergio Tejera: Playing in a very very unfamiliar role of the Holding role in the mould of Mikel to help make the midfield tick and be a creative influnce. First half he really took the game by the scruff and got the blues going, got a bit caught out for Leicesters goal. Overall a classy performance and did very well. 8

Michael Woods: A very solid performance and got up and down the pitch well and played a vital role in the attacking side of our play. Was very impressive and back to his best form. 7

Jacob Mellis: Made some excellant attacking runs behind the defence, and was unlucky to have one of those flagged for offside wrongly when he scored a good goal. Did very well overall and was unlucky not to get a goal. 8

Miroslav Stoch: Had more joy in the second half but was making some poor chances and some times would have been much better to pass earlier than he did at times. Finished the game off with a sensational run and goal and deserved a goal for his hard work and skill. A top class second half. 8

Gael Kakuta: A sensational first half from Kakuta saw him torment the defence, set a goal up and score one himself. This young man is a seriously top top class player and the first half was all about him, got somewhat marked out the second half but that gave room for Stoch, did very well.9

Morten Nielson: Worked very very hard for the team and looked very skillful as well as being able to hold the ball up well and bring his team into play. Took some time to get settled but ended up showing his class. 8

Lee Sawyer: On for Jacob Mellis with about 30 minutes to go.

Tom Taiwo:On for the injured Gorden and moved straight into right back.

Adam Phillip:On with 5 minutes to go for Morten Nielson. Had a few runs on goal and was unlucky not to score himself on one run.

Thought the team in general played fantastic, the attacking play was top drawer and much like the first team guilty at times of wasting great chances, although they still managed to stick 3 away.

Kakuta in the first half was sensational, has the ability to be truly world class. He is in that impact phase at the moment where he is really impressive. Stoch, Sinclair and Sahar all had it and then had tough phases to work through when it gets harder for them. Kakuta may well have that next season.

Stoch and Nielson were also impressive in attack. Defence was a bit ahskey but Bruma, Van Aanholt and Gordon are all very young and new so you can allow a little for that.

Nice report. Watched a bit and we also had a goal offside that wasnt. Stoch and Tejera looking good. First time in QFs for 10 years or something ?

Yup, we are looking very good for this competition this year. Our forward line is first class. We could definately go all the way.

Kakuta stole the show in this game though, this kid is possibly the best talent i have seen in our academy so far!!!

Better than Stoch? Cause you were absolutely raving about Stoch a few months ago!

Stoch is quality and is going to be top class, Stoch has got better as time has gone on, but the skills this boy comes up with is something else... overdoes it sometimes but that is youth for you.

He is having major impacts in every game he plays in, if you read the youth team match reports everytime he plays he is a massive influence.
