Its right for him to take the blame in front of the media, but I hope he comes down with an iron fist on the real culprits in the dressing room....

This might sound hpocrytical of me, infact it's very hypocrytical, but it's just been on my mind all night, we should show AVB full support, we need to highlight he's young, premier league is one of a kind, where serie a and la liga are similar, AVB was going to have it hard, he took the challenge, he's got a punishment. But i want my team to do well, so even though i think it's best to go, i really hope he's good enough and he's not the shit manager i see that he is, anyway i'm going to try and show some support for him over the forum, not that it means anything but just to brighten things up. I want him to do well and i'm sure everyone else does, and i know it's very hypocrytical because i pretty much made the thread, only thing is i think i'm hanging onto my faith too much.

We're starting to sound like the Arsenal supporters at the start of the season. If AVB gets sacked, no one will want to take his job.

I think Mourinho wouldn't mind coming back, it would be a proper challenge for him. Other coaches.. only for big fat bucks and a wee bit of masochism.

The primary job of a manager is to motivate and come up with appropriate tactics. AVB is not up to it in either of these roles. Maybe in 10 years time - but right now he's far too experienced. Bring back Hiddinck (or even bring in Capello) for rest of season and bring Jose home in the summer.

First off welcome to the forum.

And yes i agree, i just don't think he's a good manager, he's shown no signs, he also puts too much faith into things, it's logic not to play highline against Arsenal when we have slow players at the back, but he did it anyway... no good manager would of done that, i highly doubt it, but AVB did, however i'll admit i said put Alex at the back and i probably would of made the same mistake as AVB. But AVB has made stupid decisions all season, even his subs, i just don't think he's up for it, i think Porto was a one off, he is a quality manager he would of showed signs of it, however he hasn't, he's shown how much of an idiot he is and makes no sense most of the time, and these players are playing worse than Carlo's last season, now that's saying something...

i hope i'm wrong, i want him to be a great manager, i want a long term manager, sick of switching managers, but i think we are going to have to do it, by the looks of it he doesn't look quite up to it at all.

Interesting take.

So the manager has no say on transfer cause the club does all the buying and he has to work with that???

Well I remember a certain Mr. Mourinho that could not motivate and bring the best out of a super star like Sheva.....

Sorry but I don't buy that. Mourinho left Chelsea because of that exact reason. The club wants to buy their own player and don't let the coach do their own thing.

Bringing all these managers won't change squat if the club continues with their policies!

You guys need to realize that sacking him now is pointless and ridiculous, give him till the end of the season

But then we can get a better manager in, Henrique looks like he's up for the job, i actually hope he's a candidate.

Oh Gosh! Another AVB thread ...

I know AVB has not able to live up to the expectations that everyone has but then how is sacking him a solution to everything. As fans we need to understand that we support the club on the whole and sacking him, getting another manager with his team of support staff will have nothing but financial implications for a club which has already made quite a loss. I know shedding out a few million pounds for Roman is not a big deal (I m sure he would keep letting out those pounds for Chelsea) but then it is high time that we dont keep depending on Roman for anything and everything. With the fair play coming, we need to get our finances right as well.

Secondly and importantly, sacking coaches/managers season after season means there is no stability at the club and among the players. The players would always be confident that we would have someone else coming the next season. Stability is the key for any top club and unfortunately that is something missing at ours.

I know that AVB has been adamant, one dimensional and at times i really wish that i could punch him on his face for his baffling decisions but as a fan i need to look at the bigger picture and support him as the manager of this club for stability. I hope and pray that whatever is the outcome of this season, AVB is there atleast till the end of his contract. It is not about believing in him at this point of time but believing in the club that we all love.

Just a thought but does anyone think that AVB is maybe just a flash in the pan? Yes, he did very well with Porto last season and won the treble with them but you get managers who achieved a lot in their first full season in charge of a club and then go floundering in the next. Not saying this on hindsight but I was never 100% supportive of his appointment mainly because he's still young and pretty much inexperience. Would have preferred him to stayed at Porto, seeing how he deals with the expectation level and the Champions League, against the top teams and top managers. Right now, he just leaves more questions than answers every week.

Fair play can be easily circumvented, though. What's to stop Roman purchasing a million Chelsea shirts at 100 pound each (using a fake name or bank account of course) to give us a cash inflow? Or something of the sort, like Man City's deal with Etihad.

It's not right for us to sack him yet. If he fails to get us to 4th, we need to seriously think about it as not playing in the Champions League is a nightmare scenario for this club.
