Term-X 7,891
And i never mention anything about Cricket & Rugby. The first problem i saw was with the number, and then with the choice number 10, i knew it was blatantly wrong and bias! Again, next time bring some reliable source! The amount of countries in which football is the 'main sport' and TV viewing figures make this whole discussion illogical.Do you have a source, or any 'anything' for that matter disproving football not to be the most popular sport? And no i don't have a source, cause i never found an all reliable source to back anything. And that is my whole point. If you are going to come saying something as the world best, at least back it up with some resonating proof! If there is non, then you can't make such claims. More countries have football as the 'main sport', as opposed to basketball for example, that goes by TV viewing figures that are made public.to come saying something as the world best, at least back it upYou've failed yet again, I never said it was the world's 'best', I said it was the most 'popular', regardless of what is better in terms of skill etc.

ZanSnake 1,211
When a sport has a tournament called a 'World Cup' I think logical dictates that a majority of the Earth's countries do indeed have FOOTBALL as the number one sport in the country. Also, there is continental and also over 50+ football leagues in over 50+ countries which garner the numbers of viewers from a few thousand and a few billion. And to day a 'few billion' when there is about 6 Billion humans on Eartj, should point in one way.How could someone not say football isn't the number one sport in the world? America has three main sports, four if you include Hockey as an American sport, and only one, if included, has ventured outside the country and influenced another league in more then one countrey. Baseball is only popular in both America and Japan (don't know about Canada), and Hockey, which imo orginated in Canada, is played largely throughout the world but doesn't have a significant appeal like football does with the Euro's and the WC. Rambo 1,729
.The americans invented baseball and basketball ,A Canadian invented basketball, even though Americans are far better at it. But seriously justin, what part of US are you from? Football/Soccer is by far the most popular sport in the world, you don't even need stats to know that fact. As just because it's called world cup, we are going to say is the most popular? And Baseball is only popular in both America and Japan???Show how little you know, it is why you guys can't give any good argument or any real facts, cause you don't know better! You are discrediting Term's point but your not doing a very good job backing up yours, where's your source?Very good at backing my point? My point is that there is no point!I have never seen an actual reliable source that says such a thing is popular. Only by word of mouth. It is impossible to say one thing is the most popular in the world. So that is what i don't say nothing. Logic would say yes Soccer is popular because of how so many countries the world play it, but when you take a look at the population, the 3 major countries in the world are China, India and then USA with the most population. And I don't think Soccer is that popular there. It is why sometimes those stats does not make sense.....A Canadian invented basketball, even though Americans are far better at it. But seriously justin, what part of US are you from? Football/Soccer is by far the most popular sport in the world, you don't even need stats to know that fact.Yes you do! As the point i reference above, stats does not match up with the population of the world! So Justin you are still making the arguments that football is not most popular game in the world? man are you serious ?I am just trying to figure out how can a conclusion be drawn when you have this:China makes 19.4% of population of the worldIndia makes 17% of population of the worldUS makes 4.5% of population of the worldIndonesia makes 3.38% of the worldPakistan makes 2.55% of the worldThat is almost half of the population of the world. And i don't think soccer is that popular in these parts. Not sure about Indonesia though. And i think as of late Soccer has also fall in popularity due to so many corrupt act by all governing world FIFA.
termninja 5,290
Imo it is football. The money involved in it, incredible amounts of fans around the world and the huge publicity World Cup has for example. It is a really amazing game that I really really like and enjoy. End of discussion. Honestly, I see where your getting at but just because soccer isn't a traditional sport in North America doesn't mean its not the most popular sport in the world, and yes I do believe it is popular in countries such as India and China. The sport is heavily marketed in the sport industry in those respective countries. Also, bringing up population numbers aren't very logical in the sense that not every single person watches sports. More people in the entire world watch the world cricket final over the fifa world cup? Not sure about that but I will look into it. However, I have to disagree with the China part, I've been there a couple times and soccer is probably the most watched sport in the country, especially the EPL. Every pub I went to games were always on, the basketball fanbase is there as well but I will have to say a majority of the people there prefers soccer.
