  1. Lampard is actually right if we go by statistics, I checked. But the eye test of our defensive shape does not convince me.
  2. Yesterday Lampard was questioned on his defensive problems and he stated that we have conceded the least chances during his time, only behind Mancity. That means he was directly implying that the goalkeeper has let us down. Now today Mendy starts. Let's see if that is the difference in our whole defensive problems under Lampard.
  3. To be fair, pulisic and ziyech have both been injured. So now they are back we will see if Mount still squeezes himself in, starting from this weekend against Man United.
  4. Because Lampard doesn't know how to coordinate a proper press. Even Southampton can, this is not rocket science Bayern Munich last season in the Champions league showed everyone how high pressing is done. They pressed with the whole team, no gaps between the midfield and defence, the defence (with slow players like Boateng/Sule) came higher and maintained a high line, played the offside trap and had a sweeper keeper in Neuer to mop up long balls over the defence. The didn't let even Barcelona pass out of the defence easily. Lampard playing a high press and leaving so much space between the defence and midfield is a tactical flaw, which means he hasn't worked on pressing properly. Pressing back is the only way to beat a pressing team, unless we are ready to park the bus for 90 minutes and hit long balls to Werner/Giroud. If not naively trying to pass out of the back against a good press will result in that type of 2nd half total domination from southampton on saturday.
  5. Honestly I always prefer to press back against a team that presses. I wouldn't want a situation where Sevilla holds the ball and sustains pressure against us for long periods. Press back and win the balls against them high up the pitch since we would not be comfortable building out from the back under intense pressure. Also If possible play more long balls and try to win the second balls, instead of the rubbish attempt to pass out of the back against the southampton press on Saturday.
  6. The last thing we need is Jorginho under a Sevilla press. Unless we are playing Kante, Kova and Jorginho all together to cope in the midfield, Jorginho in a 2 man midfield is a big NO.
  7. Reminder that the very same players (plus David Luiz) under a different manager conceded a lot less goals and made less mistakes. Even Luiz, often mocked for his mistakes, has plenty to learn from this Chelsea. Sarcasm. The mistakes appear to be individual and freaky, but they are not. They are systemic and consistent. Lampard has to get a system of play and make the players master it. This way of playing possession today and hoofing the ball tomorrow is not helping the team. The team was committing tactical fouls in the previous match to nullify palace counterattacks, then suddenly I didn't see any of that yesterday. Lamps also didn't cope with the pressing from Southampton. Could have brought on Kovacic who is good on the ball under pressure, could have brought on Giroud/Abraham to help win those aerial balls from Kepa. Where is the tactical adaptability?? Lampard doesn't have much time. Everton, Tottenham and Arsenal are all playing much better and look like toppling us from the top four, even though we have spent 200mil to improve on 4th. We have 3 more teams to compete with for the champions league spots and that is worrisome with our current inconsistency
  8. I just hope Lampard is prepared for the Sevilla press. It will happen, we will be put under massive pressure. Hoping we won't just allow them camp in our half without any changes to the system.
  9. Maybe lol. But its just crazy. Sarri had this same backline and Kepa and we were not nearly as bad as this in defence. Lampard has to show some progress in our style of play, 43 League games with us and I'm still waiting.
  10. First time he's played in the striker position for us and he delivered. He finally gets a goal his individual performance deserves.
  11. Lampard has conceded 63 goals in about 43 premier league games with chelsea. That is an absolute disaster. Even at Derby the defending was this bad, but we thought his defenders there were poor, that he needed better players. As you can see, with better players in Chelsea, he still flops in defence. Southampton had more shots, created more chances and dominated us from the 35th minute. It's unacceptable, either he lays out the plan that we are a counter attacking team who concedes possession to even the smallest of teams, or he tells the team to be more controlled in possession. These ping pong games he's playing is getting pretty annoying now.
  12. Cant wait for him to get match fit. Pulisic and Werner will be licking their lips with him in the team.
  13. The last paragraph is so true and its tough to see it keep happening
  14. Exactly. Why lampard saw Southampton dominate us for the whole 2nd half and not change anything is the first problem, starting Kepa yet again is another problem. He looks out of his depth sometimes, theres no way we get top four this season with 66 points like we got last season, especially when Everton, Tottenham and Arsenal have stepped up their game. Losing top four with the quality of our team would be inexcusable.
  15. Lampard should take a hard look at himself. Playing pulisic on the right wing and Mount on the left, so our two wingers were not in their strong positions. We never controlled the game throughout the second half. How does he keep setting up Chelsea to be dominated by smaller sides?

  17. Yeah I think our defending has been better this season. Lamps and Barry have worked on that.
  18. Lamps may have experienced it as a player but not putting a stop to it all through 50-60 games last season meant he didn't know how to properly do it imo. I mean how can he know how to solve a serious problem and not do it? Getting an extra staff was wise from him. Agree to disagree.
  19. But we were terrible against counterattack teams like palace all through last season and Lampard never fixed that. We even had a loss to west ham late in the season through two very annoying counterattacks. Seeing tactical fouling which I never saw before Barry became a coaching staff must mean something surely. The set pieces part maybe we have to wait for a longer time but I feel somewhat safer now compared to last season where every set piece against us felt like a penalty.
  20. Thiago Silva's game vs Crystal palace by numbers 107 Accurate passes 96% pass success 120 touches 1 chance created 1 keypass 3 accurate long balls 1 tackle succeeded 2 interceptions 4 clearences 5 recoveries
  21. It would be lovely once he settles on the back 4. Every top team in Europe can name their starting back four instantly. You're right about the Mendy French, didnt think about that. That will only improve the chemistry and understanding. But I saw on instagram that Thiago silva is also trying hard to learn English too.
