  1. If the majority of customers cannot enter a shop then the shop is closed. If the majority of users cannot read a forum then in my opinion it is closed.
  2. I am a free lance sole trader. Trading as Yes Computer Solutions. Primarilly I provide managed computer networking and telephony solutions to small businesses. However I am branching out gradually to providing managed web site and email hosting. My background involves heading up the infrastructure and support teams at a large provider of independent financial research based just down the road from Stamdord Bridge and before that heading up various teams for a large group of free web hosting sites (where I learnt very rapidly about hosting websites on a shoe string) By the way Steve: looks like you missed a colon out of your 'buy me a beer' link ;-)
  3. Certain features, like reading posts unless you're signed in... To me that = closed since the majority of users are lurkers on most forums. Regarding headers you are absolutly correct. However the headers are indicating the server software being used. Experience tells me this software is heavy on server resources and therefore not an ideal fit for web hosting on a shoe string budget. And yes issues certainly exist with the 'web server config' and possibly the database config that could be addressed to hopefully keep the website online and open for visitors during usage peaks.
  4. Hi, Could someone point me in the right direction? I have been lurking in the shadows for a while observing a few of the larger premier leagues fans forums. I have made the following observations about this community: The forum is closed during what would otherwise be high traffic periods - a crying shame. The forum slows markedly and starts throwing up 'server too busy' messages around 650 people online. I provide managed hosting for another large premier league community and would like to make the offer of having a go at solving this websites hosting issues. So that the forum can remain open and better serve its members. I have already had a poke around (looked at the http headers where I noticed a certain piece of software being mentioned) and thus noted that the forum is not making the most efficient use of its hosting resources. My aim is to provide massively more capacity for the same or very similar price to the current cost of hosting. EG most recently I took a community that was slowing down at 500 concurrent users and breaking entirely at about 700 concurrent users to being able to host 1100 without finding the limits of the server. Estimated 'pushing it' capacity 1600 online users all without increasing their monthly spend.
  5. Hi, Managed office and internet solutions provider new on these grounds. Alan
