Valid point, but from hindsight I think. Defining evolution as generating intellectual progress would mean that it is moving towards a goal. Based on Darwin's theory, evolution only moves to adapt and does not move towards creating a more intelligent species. So it can be known as an improvment in a certain environment and sometimes a specialization in a niche, it is just an adaptation to survive in the enviornment. But as species change so does the enviornment. So evolution is always happening and not towards a goal. Even if we see it that way now lookng back ....

Actually we dont know that. Evolution has no direction. The idea of intellectual progress is likely considering our current niche, but does not follow automatically from the neo-darwinian synthesis.

Not true. Read "50 Great Myths of Popular Psychology: Shattering Widespread Misconceptions about Human Behavior by Scott Lillienfield" for that one. You will love it! Amazing debunking.

Id start here http://www.amazon.com/One-Long-Argument-Evolutionary-Questions/dp/0674639065Darwin is 19 th century. Sometimes hard to read/follow. The book above here is from Ernst Mayr - an icon and very clear. Then maybe go for Dawkins (the selfish gene).

We would get along. Do you know the center of evolutionary psychology, UCSB?

This is how I feel when someone posts science shit on here ... Ps: Oparin did great work, especially fore-playing or the MillerUrey experiment. Darwin ruled big time though.

I know Oparin without Wikipedia, so ... [goober]
