You are reading too much into this. The reason Conte went for Rugani and even Ogbonna instead of Romagnoli was because the former two were already used to playing with the Italian BBC and more importantly playing in a 3-5-2. That's it and nothing more. People need to realize it's far too late in the transfer window for Chelsea to use a 'hoax'. I believe it's more the case of Chelsea hurrying up the process so that in case of a complete rejection they have enough time to pursue the next alternative, Maksimovic.

Wonder where people get all their information about players' ball-playing abilities. First Koulibaly now Romagnoli. Alessio is absolutely a ball-playing center back and is considered one of the best in serie A in that respect. Bloody hell, how can you reject the chance to sign James Rodriguez? Would be a massive upgrade to any of our RW options and I'm sure Conte could find him a place in the midfield as well. Let's fucking go for him and become a top side again but I would expect some CBs before anything.

As for defenders, he really doesn't have a choice. And people shouldn't bring up Aina. His role is perfect as back up RB, who he is back up to is the problem. About the midfield, who do you suggest we play in the pivot in front of Kante? Oscar/Willian and Fabregas? Please. That midfield would get destroyed defensively against any opposition. Conte has no other choice but to play Matic. We have no other midfielder in our squad who can help out Kante defensively. If we got someone like Nainggolan and played him instead of Matic, there would be no problem since he is astute defensively and offensively. I don't think people realize how much Matic's limitations are hurting us at the moment and the worst thing is that we cant replace him with anyone in our squad who's competent defensively as well as offensively. That's the problem. Too many players who can do this but not that. Kante is our only mid who can start in every type of game and that's just sad. What's keeping me hopeful is that we're linked with Thiago Maia who is the exact type of player we should be looking at.

We started the season under the assumption that Matic can go back to his late 2014 form but no one realizes he has been continuously declining since that Burnley game and was the only player last year who didn't show any signs of improvement towards the end of the season. Even Ivanovic got better towards the end. Just keep him as back up for Kante. Playing him in a box to box role is just wrong. Absolute liability on the ball and very slow. What I would do to have Nainggolan or someone like him playing in that position.

Deary me, that team is wrong on so many levels. A right footed player being our only source of width on the left side? Terry in a 3 at the back formation? Fabregas and Hazard both in a midfield 3? Our squad is far away from being able to form a competent 3 at the back formation. We need at leastChristensen and a new CB, one more midfielder, and a left wing back for that to happen. Dont think Hazard would fit anywhere in Conte's 3 at the back formation. If he leaves at the end of the season and Christensen comes back maybe the pieces join together for Conte to finally use his favorite formation.
