He had 2 chances, which should be enough for a World Class striker - also a World Class striker would be able to create some chances for himself something which Torres seems to be incapable of doing. But yes, blame the midfield; defense; goalkeeper; coach; tactics; weather etc. Torres had a good game against City but once again - can't do it consistently. He did ok tonight, but ok is not enough at this point - as he replaced a player who won win matches for us on his own and he cost an arm and a leg. If you think he was judged the magnifying lens last season it's going to be worse this season now that Drogba is gone and Torres has gotten everything he could ask for.

Torres is past his best, he might have been able to score 40 goals in Liverpool had he been injury free - when he was really one of the best strikers in the League. The time of Torres being a top striker in World Football is gone, I don't think you've watched enough of the current Chelsea FC striker Torres and what he was at Liverpool. Simply he won't ever reach that level - Sturridge in his first season at a top club playing a new position managed to out score him, more evidence for him becoming a 40 goal striker than Torres. Torres is a striker similar to Owen, with pace gone it's all a downward slope as he continues to be more and more just a finisher up top relying on our midfield to setup clear chances for him. Had he had his old pace he would't have been muscled off the ball for his first 100% chance - he would have the Wigan defender snatching at his heels. While the second chance was just another time where he failed to make the needed position to score goals - something that would have never happened a few years ago but is far too commonplace for Torres nowadays.

You are a spastic Torres has had one season with over 25 goals in all competitions. No one thinks Sturridge is going to be a 40 goal striker - but I strongly believe if he gets as much time on the pitch as Torres this season he would outscore Nando by a good margin.

MoTM for me is Hazard - due to his impact in the first half - I know it was a poor second half but he created both our goals.

He out scored Torres and Drogba in the EPL last season - deserves a few minutes out there after Torres has had 80 and failed to scored.

Also Lampard needs to be brought of and bring on a defensive midfielder to close these Wigan players down quicker.

I wish some people would get off, we've done well a man down. Sure defense had huge problems but most of those came after an idiotic moment from Brana to get himself send off playing for a ball which wasn't key.

Can't really cope after two howlers from our defenders, at least Torres scored and Hazard looked lively in the first half. Make some changes before someone else gets send off

He didn't play as a second striker at Bolton, Elmander was behind him - Sturridge was leading the line.

It's unfair to Berbatov, he performed well and won the Golden Boot, than for some reason last season he was frozen out last season. But he still had 3 years at United that were better than anything Torres has done here. Hell he outscored him last season in the EPL despite playing apart of only 12 matches compared to 32 matches for Torres

I just hope our midfielders and attacking players score their share of goals - I don't know about RDM, personally I will not stomach another 5-10 match drought from Torres. I hope RDM, doesn't make the same mistake as AVB. If Torres doesn't perform he needs to be dropped, I don't care about his overall play, runs etc all he needs to do is simply tasks for a striker - put a round object into the back of the opposition net. Rest of his tasks are secondary. If RDM falls into same trap as AVB playing under performing players, who don't do the tasks they are on the field to perform. It would be better off playing some academy kids rather than players who don't do their duties. I think he should feel less pressure now to play certain players as a Double Winner and History maker in Chelsea FC.
