Depends on how you define letting him go for free, we are getting rid of his extremely high wages (compared to his squad status). That counts for a lot.

I wholeheartedly agree that we need to look to the future. But then I also want us to look to best of the youngsters available. It seems that the only thing we are disagreeing on is the ability of McCarthy. I just don't think he has what it takes to excel here, and while I am all for paying considerably large fees for exceptional youngsters, I just don't think McCarthy fits the bill.

Mind you we just bought Meireles last summer for 12mio, he hasn't been in form here and he is a year older. So besides the fact that I don't think we'll sell him, I seriously doubt any team would put in a 13mio bid for him. Essien for 10 is a long shot except a team like Anzhi comes knocking. In the small time he has been able to play for us past few years he doesn't even come close to the player he once was. But hey, I would be glad if those 3 left for a sum of 30mio, I just think it's highly unlikely.

Jovetic is worth 21m, would gladly take him for that sum. I doubt however that we could get 30m from sales, Essien and Malouda could maybe go for 12-15m combined. Unless we decide to sell Sturridge I can't really see where the rest of the money would come from.

Hulk could turn out to be a major flop, Shevchenko and Torres turned out to be major flops. Exactly because he is younger, he should be a less of a risk. He will always have resale value and if he doesn't have an impact immediately, he still has more than enough time to prove himself (like Lukaku). Can't see why it would be stupid business.

It's highly unlikely that we'll "need" Piazon next year. I think it was more likely that he would get some sub appearances this year rather than the next one, with most likely a few attack minded signings in the summer. I would be surprised if he would get any appearances. In fact I would be surprised if anyone in the reserves will get any appearances bar maybe the Carling cup.

Lampard and Ramires can't play together in the middle. With Hazard, Mata and Marin in front of the two there is no way we could play without a genuine holding midfielder. Romeu or Mikel is a must there. Looks good besides that, although Hulk seems like a more of a possibility than Hazard at the moment.

That's probably where I got that number. Either way they are pretty accurate. I even used the game as my only source for a presentation! But that's why I asked, £21m is fine, £29.5 is too much, in my opinion.

Gylfi is outstanding, but he does however play the same position as Mata, behind the striker. Maybe he can be deployed in the two man midfield behind Mata, but I'm not sure that would compliment his abilities. And as much as I like my fellow Icelander, he's not as good as Mata (very few are). But he would be more than a welcomed signing, just not quite sure where he fits in our starting XI. For 10m he would be an outstanding squad player, but that would be a waste of talent.

I wouldn't exactly expect it to be either one of them. I'm not sure they are interested in a move to us. But I wouldn't mind bringing in both of them, let alone one of them. If I could choose one of them though, it would be Hazard. A world class player in the making - no doubt.

I see. Trustworthy? If those reports are true (which I doubt) his agent must be world class. I believe he's on a £14.250 per week at Dortmund.
