  1. Half our squad wouldn’t play for those teams never mind just Gallagher for fuck sakes 😂 If it hasn’t dawned on people now that we aren’t at that level then it never will. We haven’t been for a few years now. People tend to forget that. And the squad is never going to be good enough unless we flip this transfer approach on its head and recruit some real quality not just potential. As a squad player, Gallagher is a very good player to have. Given he was our standout midfielder last season too, £30m is ludicrous. Football is a squad game these days. He is a better footballer than KDH from the get go too. Nothing going to change my mind on that. Having 1 good season in the best team in the championship isn’t going to change that, particularly given how average he looked in various PL seasons for Leicester.
  2. Still not convinced this will be last we hear of it and does anyone else think that this is a bit of a weak punishment? Would expect him to be put on some sort of anti racism awareness/education course (is that even the right word) plus fined heavy as well. But a donation is a donation and if this is it “settled” in the squad I suppose we will see. Racism tends to not be dealt with as easily. FIFA should throw the book at him and Argentina though so cannot be any moaning from our side if things end up much more severe.
  3. Selling Gallagher is crazy. For £30m even crazier.
  4. I am already struggling to see how he will survive past this season based on our defence alone in 180 minutes of pre season football. I am sorry but honestly if we defend like that against PL teams week in week out, we will be back to square 1 with another new manager and another new direction. The guys playing in the back 4 aren’t kids either, these are apparently players of a very good/reasonable pedigree in Reece, Levi, Fofana, Badiashile, Tosin….
  5. Must be. Cue the uproar…. although he is just as average or worse than Sanchez and everyone before him. If this guy is just as average as well then its another poor keeper signing. Not entirely convinced, stats are poor and clips of him don’t fill me with confidence in the same way that keepers like Ederson, Alisson, Courtois, Oblak etc do although they were/are the very best of the best. But it has been a huge problem position since Tibo left. If this is a signing more driven by the co-sporting directors then not entirely sure.
  6. His contract may of been worth £30m over 5 years but 50-55% of that would be tax and national insurance easily. Not to mention as well theres either a club or PFA private pension which would be a percentage also like any other pension. So £30m over 5 years after taxes etc is say around £2.75-3m a year. Thats a fucking lot of money for the majority of folk - I mean I’d give my left bollock for that - but there is a saying the more money you earn, the more money you spend. On average these footballers will have extravagant houses, housing staff, other properties for their parents/siblings etc, probably have multiple top range/super cars, wives, children, ex girlfriends, mistresses, personal chefs, private school tuitions for their children…. god knows what else but footballers going broke or having to work more normal jobs after football is not that uncommon. I think this is why you see so many doing so much sponsorship work also to give them a bit more security and boost their income also.
  7. Ahead of our rivals? We were ahead of our rivals and comfortably the main team behind City & Liverpool (albeit more a cup team arguably). Where we are now? It’s not great, is it? 4 managers later still unsure what this squad or team is. A squad that cost over £1 bn. Saying that, we probably still have the same problem positions we had about 3 years ago too: GK, CB, CF. Clearlake and the two sporting director boys have lost the plot.
  8. Everton want him? Apparently? No way they are signing him for much more than the fee we paid for him.
  9. £25m fee for our best CB last season? Fuck me. And if hes up for sale does that means that either Maresca and/or the club think both Disasi and Tosin are better players? Double fuck me.
  10. All the keepers we have bought post Kepa are worse than Kepa…. Sanchez, Petrovic and now Lunin apparently . Wow. Also like fuck would we get Ederson… hes leaving City to go to Saudi. Not another English club. Wishful thinking but never happening, hence why he’s probably only entertaining offers from Saudi/outside PL. He may stay at City yet too.
  11. Jesus grow up. He didn’t try to destroy anything. Swear some of you are fucking clueless. Oh FFS you again with more bullshit. Theres a surprise. Calling out racism/bigotry/homophobia etc is much much bigger than the club is or ever will be. Or the sport as a whole itself. Everyone’s entitled to their stance and if Fofana wants to put it on social media and call it out why shouldn’t he? Fair play to him, call it as you see it. If people don’t speak up and pretend as if everything is ok, nothing will change. Change doesn’t happen behind closed doors. Look at the media frenzy this has caused and the pressure that will be put on the clubs, FIFA, the FA etc to actually do something meaningful to try prevent this level of moronic and racist shit happening again. In this day and age you get what you deserve. And anyway, if Fofana should be thinking of Chelsea whilst calling it out, shouldn’t Enzo be thinking of Chelsea before even chanting such a chant and plastering it on his social media to the millions of followers he will have? Your logic is beyond me, thicker than a submarine’s door.
  12. So another club signing who the manager either didn’t have a say in/didn’t want/doesn’t think is ready for the first team. Only a small fee but again, like Washington, Ugochuwku, Fofana, to name a few….. What is the likelihood of seeing him playing for us in 2/3 seasons? Andreas Perreira signing would be absolutely hilarious also. Not a bad player but another KDH level, not an improvement on what we already have and never will be.
  13. Given the amount of football Johnny Evans played last season with Martinez being injured as well as Varane leaving the club I think there will be enough minutes for those 3 and Maguire to get plenty of game time fitness permitting. Evans did renew for another season IIRC so they arguably on paper, they. would have 5 CBs with those options. On another matter We most definitely need to trim our squad before making any more additions. We are probably still 3 or 4 quality players away from properly competing for the CL spots - if Maresca and some of these playerd are all their supposedly cracked up to be - given the current make up of the squad. But before then, what will happen with the likes of Santos, Broja, Ugochuwku, Lukaku, D Fofana, Angelo, Casadei, Kellyman, Gilchrist, Kepa, Anjorin, Sarr, Humphries, Guiu, Washington…. too many players again. So various loans/sales are absolutely required before we sign anyone else. Without those players mentioned above we will already have like 25 players too.
  14. I am sorry but you have shown time and time again in this thread you have no idea what your talking about. Like 6th or 7th time now. Only person who made the situation worse was Fernandez in the first place. Arguing otherwise is just stupidity.
  15. Now thats how you celebrate winning an international tournament. Brilliant all tournament for me. Well deserved to be in team of the tournament and looking forward to seeing how he performs coming back. Was an article/tiktok on the Athletic mentioning about how he has used a psychologist to help get over confidence issues regarding settling at Chelsea, getting over playing poorly, dealing with criticism & injuries etc. Euros wins and performances will continue feeding into that confidence and character. Would say Chilwell has massive work to do to get in to start.
  16. Irrespective of how you feel, it is practically 99.9% indefensible. He is live streaming it himself. Clearly singing it word for word (which means he’s knows the words and 99.9% likely what they mean because well why would you sing a long to something you don’t know?). Live to millions - including his French/African teammates at club level. He won’t be only one who gets in trouble but he will 100% be one of them at club and international level. How you can think it is acceptable in this day and age says a lot more about you than it does about anyone else. Backwards mentality.
  17. But I don’t see how knowingly and happily singing a hugely controversial, well known racist and homophobic Argentinian song/chant from the world cup isn’t a punishment of that severity? Do you really think an apology, fine, demotion, some anti racism counselling before being re-integrated into the first team is really enough? That would be a PR disaster across the board. Not to mention the fact that given the percentage of French and African players in the current squad and also in past teams, as well as the huge fan base we’ve had in that region for years. I mean really? Fuck his price tag. If the investigation done by the club goes the way you would imagine it would given the video, he has to go. Stop being so naive. Damage to the clubs image, sponsors and morale in the squad is much more expensive than a £100m player. We don’t want that sort of attitude or personality associated with the club irrespective of who it is.
  18. But what if the French players in the squad as well as the multiple other nationalities don’t accept an apology? Or if the ownership group deem that as an incredibly harmful act to moral at the club? And the image of the club? When they took over one of the things they wanted to promote was ensuring a good work culture and remove things such as bullying and toxicity in the work place as it had been heavily hinted at in the previous regime. Racism and homophobia is pretty severe compared to those two. Fofana, Gusto & Disasi have already removed him from their social media pages. We have Ugochuwku, Sarr, Badiashile & Nkunku also who also are French and no doubt will be disgusted if they’ve seen that video. We have got players who are African such as Datro Fofana and Nicolas Jackson who may be offended as the chant mentions certain African countries and transexuals. I think people that are expecting this to be swept under the rug and his place at the club is a sure thing because its Enzo Fernandez and he cost whatever or is one of our best players are being particularly narrow minded and short sighted. Yes he isn’t alone but he is unfortunately the face of it as he is streaming the video, he is the most clear person in the stream singing it. There will be a lot of those Argentinian players and maybe even staff members receiving bans from international football if FIFA and the AFA aren’t complete wanks and do a proper investigation into it.
  19. Precisely thus also. Can’t just write this off as youthful naivety - regardless of how good someone is or isn’t. Or if there an asset or whatever. Boehly-Clearlake talked a lot about culture when they took over and their intentions to reduce toxicity and bullying in the workplace after multiple allegations over the years from various employees. Turning a blind eye to something like this, which is a much bigger issue, would be extremely contradictory and send the wrong message to everyone associated with the club. @NikkiCFC also agree - it will be more than just us affected. Obviously its the Argentinians Federation and mens team issue first and foremost. But with the response from Wes Fofana to the video, his club team mate uploaded…. Not ideal. And there will be various Argentines with French team mates at club level across Europe who will have no doubt felt the same/had similar reactions.
  20. You obviously don’t know what the full chant was or are oblivious to common sense as what it infers is heavily racist. As well as homophobic slurs also. Club need to investigate this and look into it. I do not know what to expect but Boehly-Clearlake group have run folk out of other departments in the club on the non playing side for things such as bullying in the workplace. Can’t see their stance softening, particularly given the fact some of his team mates are French, makes it even worse. This he didn’t know what it meant attitude will not fly with this, not in this day and age. French Football Federation have also threatened and intend on submitting a legal case against the Argentinian Football Federation. So nonsense nothing. Different times now though. Modern day culture has changed significantly with regards to racism, sexism, homophobia and other subjects. I’d imagine the club will be assessing it on all sides as for us, it is a potential PR crisis plus the potential for major issues inside the dressing room between Enzo and the other players and coaching staff. Either way - the evidence is pretty damning. The video is for all to see and they get him to cut the video right at the bit which is where they would begin the racial and homophobic slurs.
  21. Look if you say so but just because I haven’t/won’t buy the bullshit Clearlake-Boehly & Stewart/Winstanley are peddling unlike some of you doesn’t mean I’m not entitled to an opinion. But making posts rating a mid level player like Tosin then saying De Ligt is okay is absolutely ridiculous. Anyway, lets agree to disagree 😂
  22. Juventus only sold him because he was desperate to leave after being there for 2 or 3 seasons. He had options of coming here for cash & Werner going other way or Bayern. Wasn’t other way around. Bayern move hasn’t worked but he isn’t the only player to hage not worked out at Bayern in this period. I think to write his signing off already is a bit odd. Will see how it goes but he is a better CB than majority of what we’ve got and that is 100% true. Again, if we got him under Tuchel that summer we wanted him, the opinions on here would of been the polar opposite. I mean people here getting hugely excited about mid level players like KDH & Tosin then questioning the likes of de Ligt…. it is absolutely mind blowing but only on here 😂
  23. An elite GK and attacker - be it a left winger or centre forward - is absolutely required if we are going to really kick on. Irrespective of what the other signings do we won’t achieve anything without those positions being of a very good quality. Even if Tosin and KDH are good players - again very skeptical that they are - they aren’t anywhere near enough. Even if Maresca is better/does better than Poch tactically, any manager relying on guys like Sanchez/Petrovic, Mudryk, Fofana, Jackson, Disasi, even Andrey Santos and Lavia for various different reasons, it isn’t enough. Not enough real quality in there, particularly in attack and defence. A top GK and a top left winger or centre forward would give us a much better footing from the get go.
  24. I’d imagine his signing spells the end of Badiashile here. I know people are saying he can play LB or in midfield but cannot see us willingly shifting Cucurella given his excellent performances for Spain or even Chilwell given his seniority in the dressing room. Badiashile also has apparent interest from Italy. Juventus in particular.
  25. The clubs social media team posted similar videos after first week of pre-season with Poch. And likely with any other manager we’ve had when they’ve first came in. And folk were probably eating it up the same. Hate to burst anyones bubbles but it is literally just videos of him shouting instructions at players for a training exercise. Which is part of his job. Every manager/head coach/coach leading drills does this. And a clip of him saying “every day we need to work”… MP must of said this in the media about 2 trillion times last season also, didn’t see people getting excited then 😂 Once we get a look at some pre season football, irrespective of the results although wins would be nice, then we will really have something to use to judge Maresca’s work. I am hoping he can deliver a style along the lines of which Sarri did in all fairness in terms of building the game and playing out under pressure. Maybe controversial but I think in terms of getting from the first third to the final third, we made a lot of progress. Attacking wise not so great but think that there were multiple things why that was an issue. Not really the philosophy as such. Pep comparisons always going to be a bridge far too far for any manager, yet alone a guy with 1 year experience in the Championship.
