It's not like he had a choice though by the looks of things... Napoli are basically "forcing" him out to milk him for his value. He is 26, his value is only going to go down from here on. This was their last chance to sell him for this much $$$. And PSG have a decent project going. But still I'm confident that if he had a legitimate choice between us and them, he would have chosen to come here.

Turnbull is/was terrible though and doesn't have to be the end of the argument with regards to Ruddy. There are plenty of very good back-up goalkeepers available in the market right now either on a free or for 1-2 mil who would definitely do a job. The back-up will play a maximum of 10 games, most coming in the League Cup etc, barring anything catastrophic to Cech of course. No reason why we need to get Ruddy IMO

Only now saw your reply, sorry. I see absolutely no point to this signing tbh. He is "too good" to simply sit on the bench for the whole season. I mean, unless Cech gets some freak accident, the backup goalie, whoever he is, will only get about 5-8 games all season. i personally dont see the point in splashing out 8-10mil plus high wages on Ruddy when as others have mentioned, we could simply have kept Turnbull or can sign someone like Schwarzer. Even if I'm thinking on a long-term level, there is no way he is good enough to be our first-choice keeper. We have Courtois for that anyway. Even if we lose Courtois (which could happen if either he himself wants a permanent move or if he is not willing to wait and the club decides to stick with Petr past this upcoming year) we should go out and get someone world class or potentially world class. Ruddy is neither of those. To each his own, of course!

I agree.. I don't get the hype about this guy. He was ok against us, but ffs against a Lampard-Luiz or Lampard-Ramires pivot my gran would be pretty decent too Not saying he isn't good. I would of course prefer it if we hadn't let him go as he would have been very good cover for our midfield last season. But we did let him go, so we should just move on. He isn't a potential superstar, and he'll cost way too much now. Not worth it at all IMO. There are far too many better players out there, plus this will make us look like complete idiots if we resign him for 20 odd over million
