  1. Nonsense. You wanted her to be white to pick votes where from ? KKK strongholds in Alabama ? The mistake she made -I read in many places now- was to give too much emphasis on wokism. But she was n't alone, there are the advisers also.
  2. These things are irrelevent. You read too much gossip columns. She put up a brave fight and at the moment I don't see anyone else. A new JFK ? Where is he ?
  3. AC Milan have n't scored such a win from the time of Sormani and Altafini. Real also lost 4-1 to Barcelona inside the Bernabeu. What is happening there ?
  4. All that is you say is sour grapes, nervous breakdown. Don't believe that great things happened during the campaign. The election result was in the cards - it happened. First of all about Biden. The world knows that the White House is an entire organization. The whatever problems Biden has mattered for little. Then all Kamala could do was to maybe narrow the deficit just a little. Not enough to win but don't accuse her. In fact I think she 's the best option for 2028 - we don't know any others and she is the best option. Those who expect pie in the sky from ... Trump (as well) will soon make a hard landing. For two thirds of his new term he will be fighting impeachment proceedings.
  5. In the post Trumpian world what will happen ? The magas always wanted to hurt Europe economically. From the time they were called "creep", before Trump. Remember Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin ? The UK will not be excluded. Another thing he may do is finance right wing radical movements, to make them gain more strength. The desertion of Ukraine can be considered a fait accompli (unless he backtracks). The Russians were saying "hallelujah" yesterday. How long you think his (relative) popularity will last ?
  6. Amenians are known for their strong faith in orthodoxy. Every easter their monks in Jerusalem fight with the Geek monks who will light the candle with the holy light first.
  7. I was more or less expecting the Arsenal result. But can yesterday's huge upsets be related to Trump ? I think it possible - players coming dazed into the pitch.
  8. I predicted all this twenty years ago: Learn Greek to understand why,
  9. I never pay attention to pre election talk - it does n''t change things. Maybe Harris did well to narrow the deficit but it wasn't enough.
  10. No, don't believe that. Propping up Trump was within Hamash plans to perpetrate the 7/10 atrocities. It succeeded. Jews voted for "hardliner" Trump, muslims abstained from voting democrat. This lot of muslims who voted Trump as you say were maybe Turko-americans.
  11. Look at this: https://www.naftemporiki.gr/frontpages/efimerides-imerisies/makeleio/ Hate front page from this morning's press It's a Greek tabloid owned by a deranged anti-vaxer, racist thug. But just look. It's a fact that today the world is ruled by the votes of such types. It's not a fact that the new administration will satisfy all their pervert wishes, but they form the nucleus of the new president's supporters. This one is the character who hosted the tv program leading to the accusation against me about calling the Golden Dawn "assault battalions.
  12. Zacharova - hallelujah ! https://www.lykavitos.gr/news/planet/i-antidrasi-tis-zaxarova-gia-tin-eklogi-tramp-allilouia
  13. It's the same here. Flour price went up because of the Ukraine war they blamed Mitsotakis or at least his opponents did. You can blame Mitsotakis for all kinds of things but for the war in Ukraine ? Anyway all this reminds me of Ted Heath also who was going to "cut prices at a stroke" ... In real life the only way to control prices is to cut taxes of the producers, transporters, vendors. In many long years I have observed that taxes are to blame for the price of common goods going up. Sometime it's the producers, when they think the market situation is favourable for this but mostly it's the taxes. Have n't you heard the phrase "beat the budget" ? Turn on a radio, you will hear it every five minutes. You listen to a song and then follows the jingle "beat the budget at the such and such shops".
  14. If Latinos vote for Trump then the Trump bubble will burst soon. I mean his supporters if they hate someone it's the Latinos. Not the Arab Bin Laden types like in Europe - because there are few of those. From time immemorial they hate Latinos. So Trump voters will be hating some other Trump voters ? The Hinchcliffe character then attacked the Puerto Ricans who are Americans, kith and kin, not aliens. Trump is an idiot in all sorts of other things and those who voted for him will regret pretty soon.
  15. He is a charlatan however. He does n't believe a word of what he says (because he is just too clever for that). It's a make believe story his story and he could have just as easily made himself into an arch-liberal if he thought he was going places like that. Barry Goldwater was n't like that. A strict disciplinarian from military background, he was an ideologue, wanted to nuke the world and he believed in it. Trump is a charlatan.
  16. Few more Latinos voted for Trump relative to 2020 say the estimators. It was young men below 30% who were for Trump in uneven proportions.
  17. Yes, but this will go to history as a victory of prejudice and sheer demagoguery, it's destined to go to history like that, It does n't mean Trump will destroy America, maybe we are going to have colonies on Mars by the end of his term for all we know, but will stay in history as the victory of prejudice and sheer demagoguery.
  18. The big key to win elections is promises. All you have to do is find them. You don't have to fulfill the promises and your promises can be as vague as you like. But you have to find them. One possible world record is Andreas Papandreou in 1981. Promises to abolish university entrance exams, so everyone could go to university without having to pass exams. So as those exams were called "panhellenic exams" he says to the crowd "we shall abolish the panhellenic exams". Afte becoming prime minister what does he do ? The exams stay but are now called "pan-elladic exams". Promise kept.
  19. There is also the Trump slogans: Make America great again Why is America not as great as it was ? When was it greater ? Immaterial - but the slogan catches. Also Trump will fix it That's always a winner. Works on everybody. You can't win in the football pools ? - Trump will fix it. The girl next door plays hard to get ? - Trump will fix it. Our psychology reponds thus. What is in need of fixing may be that the country needs more fishing trawlers but my problem is the girl next door and Trump will fix it. In Greece our Alexis Tsipras was one of the masterminds in "fix it" propaganda.
  20. This was the subject of a long debate we had here. To me at least it looked as if Socrates and Plato were right, but looking at it from a wider philosophical perception no. The Socrates fans essentially think thus: With the right to vote restricted to the educated people only we are going to have elections without commies, blackies and antivaxers. It will be New Democracy versus Pasok and as Pasok is "Pasok - USA" now, there will be no problem. That's a bit naive however. What will happen is it will start like that but then the Pasok-ND technocrats with the Oxford degrees will secretly band together and using their old trickery will oppress the rest. So again we do not have a perfect society (I mean of course they will all have real Oxford degrees, not bought from the internet like they do now). Of course the subject of Socrates-Plato's ideas was never debated seriously. The Tories wanted the pocket boroughs and they did n't care about university degrees and things like that. From the other side the whigs wanted just universal suffrage so they could defeat the Tory cheats one day. So it was never debated at large and we do not have a clear philosophical answer. (*) You know of course that Plato's uncle was one of the thirty tyrants, Kritias. Those tyrants were imposed on Athens by the Spartans after thir victory in the Peloponnesian wars. Eventually the Athenians revolted and killed them all. But before the revolution, Kritias was suggesting to the rest of the tyrants to adopt a more progressive profile to gain the trust of the population. For this the other tyrants put him to death, so Kritias has stayed in history as the "good tyrant" and in the revolution there were in fact 29 tyrants to be killed.
  21. The evolution of racism in the 20th-21st centuries ---------------------------------------------------------- In the beginning things were pretty mean. Not like during the centuries of slavery but pretty mean - antisemitism everywhere and seggregation. Racism then became murderous but also received a big knock in the teeth with the second world war. After that war strong alliances were built and people started becoming friendly to one another. Remnants continued to exist, the old imperial attitudes, but gradually eroded. Today in sport at least exhibitions of racism are not allowed and the perpetrators are severely punished by the authorities. Yet there exists a rival process going on in paralled and racism returns. This is because the strong bonds of the WWII alliances are gradually forgotten and distanced in time. Brexit and Trump were the two huge victories of this rival process. The former allies are called the ... peoples of nowhere, garbage islands and things like that. In a reciprocal fashion as well if you like. So right now we are entering a really dangerous phase. I don't know what will happen but it is getting very dangerous. Also with incompetent Trump in power -and other similar entities- I expect terrorist activities will increase, thus pouring oil over the fire.
