So even before a ball is kicked, you're losing faith in one of our favourite sons because he signs one player!? Seriously, grow up, and look at it positively. We signed a 31-year-old Juliano Belletti, instead of Dani Alves 7 years ago, and it proved to be a useful utility signing.. come the end of his career, he left the club as a huge fan favourite. Have faith son, Mourinho has a good set of players and he knows what he's doing! If we couldn't sign Rooney or Suarez, I'd be happy with Eto'o for a year or so. Not the best signing, no.. but not a bad one either!

What really annoys me, is that some people last season were saying that loaning Essien out was one of the worst things we could have done, and they were all wishing he was there during our bad run under Benitez, saying "if we had Essien, we wouldn't be leaking so many goals!" Essien has played a couple of games during pre-season, and now they're all saying he's useless. FFS it's pre-season... none of this shit matters according to Mourinho. Let's watch Essien in the first few matches of the season, and then decide! He might be 30, but Essien has been here a long time and could prove to be a very useful utility player... it's not often we have a player who can play multiple positions. Mourinho knows him well, and he'll know what to do with him.

Not if we sell Mikel to Galatasaray ... ... I do hope that deal goes through and we get De Rossi because Mikel is just absolutely useless at the moment ... ... the same can be said about Essien really.. he looked lost against Roma, but keeping him is vital if we want to have defensive midfield options.

I actually stayed up to watch this. Didn't catch the mistake from Schwarzer, but I did see Lampard and Lukaku's goals! Lukaku HAS to be our frontman this season, if Rooney ends up a no go!

Very true! David has a contract until 2017 and has already said he's not nterested in talking to another club.. the performance he showed in the Confederations Cup final against Spain proves why we musn't sell him. He is a big future for the long run, and I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes our new captain after JT chucks it in. I actually consider Barca to be a rival club seeing as we've faced them so many times in Europe, so selling Luiz to them shouldn't even cross anyone's mind!

Sell Luiz, and use the funds to sign Rooney... ... or don't sign Rooney, keep Luiz and give Lukaku a shit-load of games to build his confidence ... Definitely the second option in my opinion!

Absolutely spot on Hutcho! I've been saying exactly the same thing.. and it's exactly my feelings towards Rooney. I understand that signing him would be a "Statement of Intent" as TerminatorX puts it, but having Lukaku almost feels like we still have Drogba around!

That doesn't make Suarez any similar to Rooney though, does it? Suarez bites people, and to top that all off, he is a racist.. that's ten times more serious than Rooney celebrating in front of opposition fans, wouldn't you say?

Drogba destroys Arsenal yet again... in the Emirates Cup! ... that's 15 goals against them now! Arsenal are so desperate to win a trophy that they set up their own tournament.. and they can't even win that!

If Rooney doesn't join Chelsea, I would be happy to see Lukaku banging them in for us this season.. he deserves the spotlight because he worked so hard under Clarke at West Brom, and he WILL be the new Drogba! I'm not sure if Rooney will be a big hit anyway.. too much money for a player who just is not in the right mindset. He doesn't know what he wants.. his current situation is similar to what Torres was going through before he made the move to us from Liverpool.. alone and unwanted. We paid £50m for him, and in the 2 years he's been at Chelsea, he has never seen his best. If we do sign Rooney, great! But there's too much negativity in his attitude... Lukaku, from what I've been reading, seems pumped up and ready! From that, I know who I'd pick week in week out!

Gotta say, you're right there! Sagna is just too much of a liability for them... Gibbs is a good left back, but just isn't world class enough... neither is Monreal in all fairness, but it's the type of player that Wenger ends up getting... players who sound good, but in reality, it's only the bare minimum of what he's willing to go for in the market. Wenger has no ruthlessness at all, and that's why Arsenal fans are pissed off!

To be honest, one possible reason why Arsenal have been so quiet in recent transfer markets, including this one, is because they're still paying back a loan that they took out for when they built the Emirates Stadium 7 years ago. Either that, or Arsene Wenger is a tight French OAP who loves kids. I agree with Ollie, I hope Arsenal come 5th so that their fans can realise what an atrocious club they are. Most of their fans would actually WANT that to happen to their club so that Wenger can realise why buying players to replace their outgoing is essential for them. .... not that I would want that to happen of course!

Aulas, Calderon, De Laurentiis ... the list is endless *sigh* The good thing is, we haven't spent big money on an unproven striker, which we have done twice before, and have regretted it, so I'm glad this one hasn't happened for us.
